Responsibilities & Qualifications
The Novelis Bay Minette, AL team is seeking Automation Technicians to work in the Bay Minette facility. This role will report to the Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability & Automation (EMRA) Leader of the hiring Manufacturing Unit.
Responsibilities:
  • Embrace the Novelis Safety Absolutes to build a zero-injury culture and the Novelis cultural beliefs of Be Authentic, Say Anything, Be Open and Built Trust
  • Maintains computer software and hardware and all facets of automation controls.
  • Makes hardware and software upgrades to Programmable Logic Controllers, Micro Controllers and Process Computer Systems.
  • Maintains a high technical capability of automated systems hardware and software. Functions as the "on-shift" technical leader for process automation systems.
  • Provides on-shift automation support and training to team members.
  • Collaborate with and under the direction of Engineering.
  • Working in conjunction with operations and other maintenance employees, assist in troubleshooting systems, coordinating project work, and maintaining equipment functionality.
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • HS Diploma/GED
  • 5 years experience in an industrial environment and/or 2 year degree/certification, preferred
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and standards such as NEC and OSHA. Ability and knowledge to select and use the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Knowledge and ability to understand the Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), grounding, arc flash prevention, machine guarding, and alternative means of controls when troubleshooting live circuits and abide by these requirements.
  • Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair automation devices in production equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and maintaining high-quality production standards.
  • Support Mechanical and Electrical crews on troubleshooting sequencing or controlling breakdowns by accessing computer logics, follow PLCs signals, inspecting automation devices like sensors and instruments.
  • Familiar with hydraulic and pneumatic circuits to enhance troubleshooting.
  • Ability to execute PLC and HMI projects backups, create restoration procedures.
  • Ability to analyze trend graphs, feedback from field sensors and digital and analogical inputs and outputs, in 24Vdc or 110VAC.
  • Repair and replace defective components in Remote IOs panels and Controller Cabinets. Install, maintain, and repair automation parts of machinery and equipment.
  • Written and oral communication skills, computer skills and familiarity with computer maintenance management systems. Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repair histories, and equipment performance metrics.
  • PLC Programming - knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers and the ability to troubleshoot these systems. Understanding of Ladder (LAD) and Function Block Diagram (FBD) logics.
  • Familiar with Ethernet networks and basic hardware.
  • Computer Hardware (Install & Troubleshooting) and Operational Systems including Windows patching, setup, backups, and antivirus software to enhance cybersecurity.
  • Basic understanding of Virtual Machines and thin clients and industrial interfaces
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, off-shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed to support continuous operations.

  • Rolling, casting, strip process experience
  • Reading prints, single lines, process flows, and network diagrams
