Automation Engineer

Location: Pennington, New Jersey

Schedule: Full-Time – Onsite – 5 days per week

About the Opportunity

Our client, a leading biotechnology manufacturing organization, is looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to support automation systems across a GMP-regulated manufacturing site.

The role will work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality and IT, supporting the maintenance, troubleshooting, validation and improvement of site automation systems.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain site automation systems including SCADA, PLCs and HMIs
  • Troubleshoot automation and control-system issues and support root cause investigations
  • Support Wonderware/AVEVA System Platform and ArchestrA
  • Support Allen-Bradley/ControlLogix PLCs
  • Develop and execute validation protocols, test scripts and lifecycle documentation
  • Support system upgrades, configuration changes and new equipment implementation
  • Manage automation changes through established change-control processes
  • Support deviations, CAPAs and system investigations
  • Maintain automation SOPs, system documentation, backups and user access
  • Ensure systems remain compliant with GMP, 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP 5 and Annex 11
  • Work closely with internal teams and external vendors on automation projects and system improvements


Required Experience

  • 5+ years' Automation Engineering experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology or life sciences manufacturing
  • Strong PLC, SCADA and HMI experience
  • Hands-on Wonderware/AVEVA System Platform and ArchestrA troubleshooting experience
  • Strong Allen-Bradley/ControlLogix experience
  • Direct experience working with 21 CFR Part 11
  • Experience within a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment
  • Experience with CSV, equipment qualification and validation documentation
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting automation systems in a live production environment
