Automation Controls Product Engineer

Objective:
The Product Engineer (PE) will partner with a ProductManager to successfully manage and grow their product line of business in anentrepreneurial environment within AutomationDirect. The PE is the product subject matter expertand oversees all technical aspects of product evaluation, new productintroduction, and support through the product life cycle. Primary product ownership includes ac/dcdrives, electronic soft starters, ac/dc motors, and ac/dc gearmotors. The PE is a servantleader and works cross functionally with internal and external teams.
Responsibilities:
  • Leverage your experience and product knowledge to select the best products to grow the product line and meet customer's needs
  • Product ownership throughout the product life cycle
  • Evaluate and test new products and technologies. Create sample projects for demonstrating product functionality in a controls system.
  • Support product through specifying product requirements (HW/SW), new product introductions, documentation, training, second tier backline support (only during normal business hours), and product obsolescence.
  • Life-cycle projects to improve product quality or lower product cost
  • Supplier evaluation including product offering, technology roadmap, and support capabilities
  • Some scheduled domestic and international travel is required

Qualifications:
  • Requires education in technical discipline with preference for BS in mechanical or electrical engineering or at least 10 years of related experience
  • Requires 7 years' experience (10 years preferred) in industrial control & automation market. Preferred experience includes product application, control system integration, technical support, and/or product design. Similar experience in related markets such as building automation and medical equipment may be considered.
  • Product expertise and deep product knowledge of the specific product categories are required
  • Experience with industrial control products such as PLCs, HMIs, Servos, and Encoders is desirable along with working knowledge of industrial communication protocols
  • Experience with agency approvals (UL, CSA, CE, RoHS, etc.) is desirable
  • Experience with CAD such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc. is desirable
  • Must possess self-confidence, organizational skills, time management skills and excellent communication skills
  • Must also be able to work on and manage projectsindependently, meet deadlines and have excellent interpersonal skills
