Job description

Automation Systems Assembly & Commissioning Specialist

You start your day with a blueprint in one hand and a torque wrench in the other. On your bench are components destined to become a one-of-a-kind production line or a high-precision test stand. By afternoon, those parts are aligned, plumbed, wired, and running through their first functional checks. By week's end, you may be leading a run-off in our shop—or on a customer floor—validating that every station hits spec.

What a day looks like
  • Translate engineering drawings, schematics, and build packets into a fully functioning automated machine or test system.
  • Fit, install, and align mechanical subassemblies with precision measuring tools to achieve repeatable, reliable motion.
  • Integrate pneumatic circuits (cylinders, valves, tubing) and basic electrical devices (sensors, actuators, wiring awareness) into the build.
  • Perform staged checkouts—component, subassembly, and system-level—documenting results and next steps.
  • Debug issues across mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical domains; determine root causes and implement lasting fixes.
  • Support machine run-off and commissioning both in-house and at customer sites; travel may be required up to 20% domestically and internationally.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineers, Electricians, vendors, and customers; surface drawing conflicts or part discrepancies early and clearly.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and opportunities to supervisors and project teams to keep schedules on track.
  • Champion quality and continuous improvement—reduce rework, suggest process tweaks, and uphold rigorous workmanship standards.
  • Maintain an orderly, safe work area and follow company and OSHA safety practices.
What you bring
  • At least five years of hands-on experience building automated machinery, assembly equipment, or test systems.
  • Background in custom machine building strongly preferred; technical training, apprenticeship, or trade certification is a plus.
  • Exceptional blueprint and schematic literacy; you can interpret complex assemblies without guesswork.
  • Mechanical mastery: precise assembly and alignment; confident with pneumatics and familiar with basic electrical devices and their function.
  • Comfort using standard hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Proven troubleshooting ability and analytical thinking to isolate faults and resolve them efficiently.
  • Clear communicator and team collaborator who can also work independently and own outcomes.
  • Own set of hand tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel up to 20% per calendar year (domestic and international) for builds, installations, and service.
  • Ability to regularly move, lift, position, and install equipment and materials over 20 lbs.

If you take pride in turning drawings into dependable machines—and you thrive on the moment a system runs flawlessly—we’d like to meet you.
