The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time Pneudraulic Systems Mechanic, WG-8255-5/10, to work at the Air Force Materiel Command, (AFMC) in the Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC) in the Ogden Air Logistics Complex (OO-ALC) with CMXG at HILL AIR FORCE BASE located in LAYTON, UTAH. The primary purpose of this position is To disassemble, repair, rebuild, modify, test, troubleshoot, and install more complex hydraulic and pneumatic systems designed to adjust automatically to factors such as temperature, humidity, pressure, or rate of change of velocity, or have sensing devices that feed back into the system information on the systems' performance.
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain security clearance
- This is a designated Drug Testing Position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical (if applicable)
- The employee may be required to work extended or other than normal duty hours to include overtime, and/or days, swings, or owl shifts, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and/or overtime.
- The employee may be required to work during base exercises, contingencies or emergency situations.
- The employee may occasionally travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft IAW Joint Travel Regulations to other government installations, contractor facilities, or other commercial Locations for both training and mission accomplishment.
- Based on operational necessity, occasional TDY away from home base is probable and will require travel by a variety of modes to include military or commercial air, Government Owned Vehicle etc.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of the Nuclear Weapons Personnel Reliability Program (PRP) IAW DOD Regulation 5210.42 and AFMAN 10-3902. This is a Critical PRP position, Code A."
- Travel to other installations to attend conferences, or working groups, and/or assist HQ inspections/evaluations may be required.
Recruitment Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical and mechanical principles to plan, lay out, and perform work involving the repair, test, installation, and maintenance of complex hydraulic and pneumatic systems designed to adjust automatically to factors such as temperature, humidity, pressure, or rate of change of velocity, or have sensing devices that feed back into the system information on the systems' performance.
2. Knowledge of the complex interrelationship of numerous subassemblies that make up total sitemaps, to restore systems to optimum serviceable condition; and of the relationship of hydraulic and pneumatic systems to the structure of the aircraft or other system where the systems are located to install and test systems.
3. Knowledge of the physical principles governing the behavior of fluids (liquids and gases) as they pertain to hydraulic and pneudraulic systems and their components, and of standard formulae and mathematics, particularly the use of decimal values in computing shop limits and flow values.
4. Knowledge of basic information sources, technical orders, manufacturers' specification manuals, parts supply books, blueprints, and schematic diagrams to apply the requirements contained therein.
5. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices and procedures.
6. Skill to set up and operate test stands and test adapters to calibrate the systems at various rates of speed and under environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, pressure, altitude, and inlet flow; and to conduct quality of performance and endurance tests in the hydraulic flow metering area; and to apply troubleshooting procedures to
isolate malfunctions.
7. Skill to use and adapt templates, jigs, and fixtures required to complete repairs.
8. Ability to diagnose the cause of operational failures, to determine the extent of repairs and whether to rework or replace faulty components, and to estimate time required to complete repairs, and to perform necessary rework to ensure the proper operation in accordance with standards and technical specifications.
9. Ability to interpret, and use technical orders, manufacturers' specification manuals, parts supply books, blueprints, and schematic diagrams.
