Job description

QuEra is seeking a Sr Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Engineering team building next-generation neutral atom quantum computers. This individual will work alongside other engineers and physicists to design, develop, document and test mechanical systems and components. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in mechanical design principles, experience with a 3D modeling tool (Autodesk Inventor preferred), to design with forethought towards manufacturing and assembly (DfM/DfA), knowledge of GD&T, and experience working with machine shops and contract manufacturers.
Key Responsibilities:
  • During the testing and development phases, helping to identify issues, recommend potential solution options and tradeoffs, communicate and review the issues and solutions with the US team, and implement solutions.
  • Help with inspection, assembly, and installation of quantum computer modules
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using Autodesk Inventor
  • Specify, design, procure, and prepare prototypes and assist with product testing and validation
  • Work with cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams to ensure designs meet performance and manufacturability requirements
  • Support the creation of technical documentation, including design requirements and specifications, drawings, and assembly instructions, and test reports
  • Contribute to the culture of following engineering best practices

Other Responsibilities:
  • Support design, procurement, and assembly of parts and enclosures by third party vendors
  • Incoming part acceptance inspection
  • General technical tasks such as wiring, assembling, cleaning, etc. (We are a start up!)

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in mechanical design
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (preferably Inventor) and experience using a PDM software (preferably Autodesk Vault)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management and configuration management processes
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Self-motivated with a passion for continuous learning and professional development
  • Must be a team player

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in thermal management and liquid cooling design
  • Experience with power electronics systems and infrastructure
  • Experience with opto-mechanical system design
  • Experience working with optics and lasers
  • Experience with prototype fabrication and testing
  • Experience with MBSE
