  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in construction inspection on Caltrans highway projects following the Caltrans Construction Manual
  • Lead inspectors must have ten (10) years of experience on Caltrans highway projects 
  • Bridge Inspectors should have the ability to monitor prestressing, inspect falsework and shoring, help develop a 4-Scale for bridge widenings, and be knowledgeable about the various manuals of the Caltrans Office of Structure Construction
  • Ability to work some night shifts desired 

The salary range for this position is $148,000 - $168,000. The salary offered will be based on the applicant's qualifications, education, experience and work location.

  • Monitor Contractor's operations to confirm work is being performed in a safe manner and is compliant with CalOSHA.  Protect public safety 
  • Coordinate with project survey and material testing staff, plus other project stakeholders such as utility companies, local agencies, CHP, and Caltrans oversight 
  • Generate daily inspection reports to document the work performed by the contractor 
  • Daily submittal of complete reports is mandatory 
  • Roadway Inspectors: Inspect earthwork, drainage, paving, SWPPP, Maintenance of Traffic, wall construction, and other project elements as required.  This may include grade checking.   
  • Electrical Inspectors: Inspect highway lighting, ramp metering, traffic signals, and fiber optic communications, including CCTV.  
  • Bridge Inspectors: Inspect bridge widenings, new bridge construction, and retaining wall construction (including soil nail walls).   
  • Confirm that materials incorporated into the work comply with contract requirements, including material testing and source inspection 
  • Coordinate with the contractor to schedule inspections and resolve non-compliant work 
  • Measure quantities for contractor payment and provide quantity calculation sheets for monthly pay estimates
