Auto Consulting information

What is auto consulting?

Auto consulting is a professional service that helps individuals or businesses make informed decisions when buying, selling, or maintaining vehicles. Auto consultants provide expertise on vehicle selection, price negotiation, financing options, and can even assist with inspections and paperwork. They act as advocates for their clients, ensuring they get the best value and avoid common pitfalls in the automotive market. Consulting services can be especially valuable for those unfamiliar with the car buying or selling process.

What are the most common challenges faced by auto consultants when working with clients, and how can they be addressed?

Auto consultants often encounter challenges such as managing client expectations, navigating complex industry regulations, and staying updated on rapidly evolving automotive technologies. Building strong communication skills and setting clear project goals at the outset can help manage expectations. Staying proactive about industry trends and regulatory changes is crucial, as is collaborating closely with dealership staff, manufacturers, and finance professionals to deliver well-rounded solutions. Continuous learning and networking within the automotive sector are key strategies for overcoming these challenges.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an auto consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Auto Consultant, you need a solid understanding of automotive products, market trends, and sales techniques, typically supported by experience in automotive sales or consulting. Familiarity with dealership management systems (DMS), customer relationship management (CRM) software, and relevant certifications such as ASE can be advantageous. Strong interpersonal skills, active listening, and problem-solving abilities set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure that consultants can effectively match clients with vehicles, negotiate deals, and build lasting customer relationships in a competitive market.

What is the difference between Auto Consulting vs Auto Service Advisor?

Auto Consulting and Auto Service Advisor roles both require automotive knowledge and customer interaction. Auto Consulting focuses on providing expert advice and recommendations, often in a consulting setting, while Auto Service Advisors primarily communicate with customers about repairs and services at a dealership or repair shop. Both roles are essential in the automotive industry but differ mainly in scope and setting.

Description

At Liberty, our Personal Lines Auto Product team partners across the company to build and roll out auto insurance solutions that keep pace with what customers and agents need. We focus exclusively on auto, bringing deep expertise, data and analytics to deliver strong state-by-state results while modernizing how we price policies and the technology that supports them. Organized around four core areas-Delivery & Development, Underwriting Effectiveness, State Management, and Mobility Solutions-we work collaboratively to live our purpose: helping people embrace today and confidently pursue tomorrow.

The Product Delivery Monitoring Team is looking for a Consultant to help advance the next generation of Personal Lines Auto monitoring capabilities. This highly visible individual contributor role will partner across the organization to strengthen how we monitor Auto pricing programs, detect emerging issues, improve data accuracy, and scale sustainable monitoring practices across the broader Auto portfolio.

This role will focus heavily on building strategic monitoring capabilities that reduce programmatic risk, improve early issue detection, and create a scalable foundation for future growth. In addition, this individual will support core Auto Program Monitoring responsibilities, with a focus on program-level monitoring and analysis of recently launched pricing programs.

Drive the development and scaling of continuous monitoring and anomaly detection capabilities to reduce programmatic risk across the Auto portfolio.

Improve data accuracy and early issue detection across rating programs, key business metrics, and Auto program results.

Build scalable monitoring processes, tools, dashboards, and analytical frameworks that support future-state portfolio monitoring and program-level analysis.

Reduce manual effort and response time through automation, improved reporting, and cross-functional coordination.

Support program-level monitoring for Personal Lines Auto pricing programs by analyzing key metrics, identifying emerging trends, and assessing whether results are performing as expected.

Query, manipulate, and analyze large datasets to investigate anomalies, identify root causes, and communicate actionable insights to technical and non-technical audiences.

Partner with teams across USDS, the Data Office, IT, Risk Analytics, Underwriting, State Management, and other business areas to identify issues, coordinate solutions, and improve monitoring effectiveness.

Provide timely updates and recommendations to stakeholders on monitoring results, data quality, program performance, and emerging risks.

Ideal candidate will have :ย

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to identify patterns, investigate root causes, and develop practical recommendations.

Proficient in SQL, Power BI, Excel, PowerPoint, and Snowflake. Experience with Python and GitHub preferred.

Experience building dashboards, reporting tools, analytical frameworks, and repeatable processes.

Ability to communicate complex analytical findings clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.

Strong planning, organizational, analytical, decision-making, and communication skills

Familiarity with insurance rating programs, pricing implementations, or post-launch program evaluation preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in Personal Lines, auto insurance, pricing, product, or broader insurance analytics.

Experience with anomaly detection, continuous monitoring, data quality monitoring, automation, or early issue detection.
