Job description

Job Description:

The Auto Body Technician’s primary responsibility is to provide an exceptional customer experience by meticulously assessing and repairing vehicles to restore them to pre-accident condition. The Auto Body Technician plays a key role in the company’s promise of speed, quality, and customer excellence. They thoroughly disassemble, repair, and reassemble vehicles, ensuring that all repairs meet company standards and align with the facility’s KPIs.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in the creation of a comprehensive repair plan for each vehicle, ensuring all necessary steps and procedures are clearly outlined.
  • Evaluate vehicle damage with precision, performing key repair tasks such as body alignment, frame straightening, and replacing or repairing damaged parts to restore the vehicle to its pre-accident condition.
  • Disassemble, repair, and reassemble vehicles with attention to detail, ensuring each stage of the repair process is completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Repair collision-damaged vehicles in line with OEM specifications and company standards, utilizing resources such as Alldata and I-CAR guidelines to ensure quality outcomes.
  • Participate in daily production meetings, contributing to team discussions and collaborating to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Meet production deadlines by aligning repair work with the established schedule and maintaining focus on timely delivery.
  • Demonstrate expertise in using various hand and power tools, including cutting guns, plasma cutters, hydraulic jacks, and hammers, ensuring accurate and safe execution of repair tasks.
  • Exhibit strong attention to detail during repairs to ensure work is performed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards, maintaining both the vehicle's structural integrity and cosmetic appearance.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and methods to identify and address mechanical, structural, and electrical issues, ensuring all repairs meet or exceed industry standards and customer expectations.
  • Follow established repair protocols, safety guidelines, and quality assurance procedures, ensuring compliance with company and industry standards throughout all stages of the repair process.
  • Maintain effective communication with team members, ensuring the seamless flow of work, and provide customers with timely updates regarding the status of their vehicle repairs.
  • Repair or replace interior components as needed, ensuring all aspects of the vehicle are restored to its original condition.
  • Complete work orders within designated labor timeframes, ensuring all repairs are thoroughly executed and thoroughly inspected post-repair to meet quality expectations.
  • Stay current with required I-CAR training and company safety programs, actively participating in all mandatory learning and safety initiatives.
  • Keep work area clean and organized at all times, ensuring a safe and efficient environment for repairs. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times to maintain safety and comply with workplace safety regulations.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and machinery in proper working condition, ensuring all equipment is regularly serviced and cleaned to prevent malfunctions.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities and Physical Requirements:

  • Proficient in reading job orders and performing tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with other repair technicians in an auto body shop environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of vehicle body repair methods and procedures.
  • Expertise in using a variety of hand tools and equipment necessary for auto body repairs.
  • Capable of working safely in a noisy environment with the presence of various odors.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and conduct visual inspections of vehicle damage in different weather conditions.
  • Physical capability to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform vehicle repairs and inspections.
  • Comfortable standing, bending, and squatting for extended periods during repair tasks.
  • Ability to work in environments with loud noises, heavy machinery, and potentially hazardous chemicals.

Education and/or Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a collision repair facility, performing auto body repair tasks.
  • I-CAR certification is preferred.
  • Vocational training in automotive repair is a plus.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
