Special Needs Autism Specialist & Family Assistant

Full-Time | Lakeway, Texas (Greater Austin Area)

Starting Compensation: $70,000+ annually

This is a unique opportunity to provide individualized support for two young adults on the autism spectrum (typically supporting one individual at a time) in a warm, respectful, family-centered environment.

This position is especially well-suited for someone looking to transition from teaching, ABA, or another helping profession into a more sustainable and relationship-focused role.

What We Offer

• Most weeks are four-day work weeks, providing three days off every week (except during scheduled intensive support weeks)

Schedule

This position follows a predictable 13-week quarterly schedule that balances consistency with flexibility.

Each quarter includes:

• 10 regular weeks averaging approximately 30 hours per week
• 2 intensive weeks of up to 100 hours per week (overtime pay beyond 40 hours), which include extended shifts and overnight stays
• 1 paid week off each quarter after the introductory employment period

Most weeks consist of a four-day work week, giving you three days off to enjoy a healthy work-life balance. During intensive support weeks, the schedule expands to meet the family's needs.

Because family life is dynamic, flexibility is essential. This role will:

• Cover shifts when another caregiver is unavailable
• Assist with special family events
• Travel with the family occasionally
• Help during periods requiring additional support
• Some evenings, weekends and holidays may be required

Responsibilities

Responsibilities focus on providing thoughtful, person-centered support while helping daily life run smoothly.

Duties include:

• Providing one-on-one support to young adults on the autism spectrum including recreational activities, community outings, employment support, teaching daily life skills, etc.)
• Some hygiene care required (help with hair washing and other care tasks with an emphasis towards learning independence)
• Encouraging independence while ensuring safety and well-being
• Supporting community outings, recreation, appointments, and daily activities
• Preparing simple, nutritious meals
• Assisting with light household tasks related to the individuals' care
• Maintaining communication with other members of the support team
• Participating in overnight support during intensive weeks
• Traveling with the family if needed

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is dependable, emotionally mature, adaptable and truly enjoys the special needs population.

Required qualifications include:

• Experience supporting individuals with autism
• Experience with epilepsy/seizures a bonus
• Professionalism, sound judgment, and excellent communication skills
• Ability to adapt to changing schedules
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Ability to pass background and reference checks

A one year commitment is required for this position. Must be comfortable with dogs as the family has a hypoallergenic dog.

This position is not appropriate for college students due to the scheduling flexibility and long-term commitment required.
