Job Description
Special Education Teacher Assistant - Autism (CUBS)


Job Title: Special Education Teacher Assistant Autism (CUBS) Reports To: Building Principal Classification: Paraprofessional (Clerical/Teacher Assistant) Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt Days: 188 Salary: See Compensation Plan for Paraprofessional/Administrative Support Staff, Pay Grade 203 Contract: None Date Revised: 11/15/2023 Primary Purpose: Assist students and teachers in the special education Autism (CUBS) program and general education classes. Qualifications/Skills:

Education/Certification:

  • Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment.
  • Educational Aide Certification.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge regarding Autism preferred.
  • Background related to working with children and parents.
  • Willing to assist with toileting, feeding and other self help skills being developed.
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written). Bilingual preferred.
  • Bus driver training as needed, or as required.
Major Duties and
Responsibilities:

Instructional Support:

  • Adhere to Texas Education Agency and district policies and procedures.
  • Assist in carrying out the instructional program under the supervision of the teaching personnel.
  • Assist in maintaining student records.
  • Assist with teacher planned activities, exercises and drills.
  • Follow teacher instruction and guidance.
  • Participate in planned in-service and professional growth activities related to Autism and other topics.
  • Create instructional materials as needed.
  • Maintain communication between home and school and keep a daily log of information about the student and his or her activities.

Student Management: 

  • Ability to work with children using appropriate interpersonal skills
  • Has the responsibility to provide direct support to students with disabilities as indicated in the student's IEP.
  • Follow the student's IEP and the modifications and instructional techniques recommended by related service staff.
  • Become proficient in students' individual communication methods and strategies.

Other:

  • Participate in the assessment of the student and in the preparation of IEP's, progress reports, behavior plans, data collection and other documentation for program monitoring.
  • Serve as a resource to other staff on issues related to students' needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory
Responsibilities:
None Equipment Used: Wheelchair, ramp, personal computer and various office equipment. Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.
  • This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.

Physical Demands: 

  • Physical capacity to lift, transfer and otherwise assist students with physical disabilities (e.g. ability to lift 50 lbs.).
  • Repetitive hand motions.
  • Prolonged use of the computer.
  • Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
  • Moving small stacks of textbooks, boxes, equipment and other campus equipment.
