Under the supervision of an audit department, your duties as an associate auditor include planning and carrying out aspects of an internal audit aimed at improving the efficiency or financial health of a company. In addition to providing accounting assistance, you may conduct interviews with employees and create reports of findings for the auditing department. Qualifications for a career as an audit associate include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, statistics, or a related field, as well as relevant job experience. Audit associates also need excellent attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and advanced math ability.

Job description

Audit Associate II | Nonprofit amp; Employee Benefit Plan PracticeMake an Impact Beyond the Audit
Clark Schaefer Hackett's Not-for-Profit Group partners with organizations that strengthen communities and improve lives every day.
Our team serves more than 700 not-for-profit organizations, ranging from local charities to institutions with annual budgets exceeding $1 billion. We provide audit, tax, and advisory services to a wide range of organizations, including charitable and social service agencies, healthcare providers, foundations, museums, housing programs, faith-based institutions, and professional associations.
As an Audit Associate II, you'll work on engagements that directly support these mission-driven organizations while building your career alongside recognized leaders in the not-for-profit and employee benefit plan space.
What You'll Do
  • Participate in financial statement audits, reviews, and compilations
  • Assist with Single Audits for organizations receiving federal funding
  • Perform audit testing and evaluate internal controls
  • Prepare audit workpapers and supporting documentation
  • Communicate directly with clients and engagement team members
  • Collaborate with managers and partners throughout engagements
  • Build expertise in not-for-profit and employee benefit plan auditing
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
Clark Schaefer Hackett is a recognized leader in the not-for-profit sector. This is not a niche service line or a secondary focus of the firm. It is a core practice area where we have invested heavily because we believe in supporting organizations that make a meaningful difference in our communities.
You'll join a collaborative team with direct access to experienced mentors and subject matter experts. Your work will be visible, meaningful, and client-facing from day one.
Our hybrid work environment provides flexibility while maintaining the strong support, coaching, and connection that help professionals grow.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 1-3 years of audit or assurance experience
  • Understanding of audit methodology and financial statement engagements
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Desire to learn and grow within public accounting
A Plus, But Not Required
  • CPA or CPA-track
  • Not-for-profit audit experience
Why CSH?
At Clark Schaefer Hackett, we're committed to helping our people build rewarding, sustainable careers while doing meaningful work.
We trust our professionals to work where they can be most effective. There are no office attendance quotas or arbitrary requirements. We collaborate in the office when it makes sense, work on-site with clients when it adds value, and work from home when that's the best option. Our focus is on serving clients, supporting one another, and delivering great results, not tracking where work gets done.
You'll join a collaborative team that values technical excellence, professional development, and strong relationships. You'll have the opportunity to learn from recognized leaders in the not-for-profit and employee benefit plan space while building expertise that will benefit you throughout your career.
  • 5 weeks of PTO
  • An additional firm-wide shutdown week
  • Robust professional development and CPA support
  • Flexible, hybrid work options
  • A culture built on trust, respect, and collaboration
If you're looking for an opportunity to develop your technical skills, build meaningful client relationships, support organizations that strengthen our communities, and grow your audit career with one of the region's most respected public accounting and advisory firms, we encourage you to apply.
