MCS of Tampa Audio Visual (AV) Systems Estimator ( Commercial, Fed/DoD, SLED ) Tampa, FL - Full Time MCS is hiring for a Audio Visual (AV) Systems Estimator, in Tampa or Orlando, FL. This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits. The Audio Visual (AV) Systems Estimator must demonstrate a strong technical background in commercial audio-visual integration. The Audio Visual(AV) Systems Estimator will analyze architectural blueprints, RFPs (Requests for Proposal), and project specifications to build comprehensive, accurate, and profitable cost estimates. They will bridge the gap between sales and engineering by properly sizing hardware, control platforms (Crestron, Extron), audio DSPs (Biamp), labor, and installation requirements. Typical Duties include: * Review blueprints, architectural drawings, and system schematics to evaluate project scope and create precise cost estimates.
* Develop accurate equipment lists, ensuring proper specification of hardware including control processors, switchers, displays, microphones, and cabling.
* Leverage hands-on familiarity with Crestron and Extron control/switching architectures and Biamp digital signal processors (DSP) to validate system functionality and cost feasibility.
* Calculate accurate labor hours for engineering, rack building, on-site installation, programming, testing, and project management.
* Partner closely with Sales, Engineering, and Project Operations teams to clarify project requirements, review design constraints, and finalize bid submissions.
* Source third-party equipment, evaluate supplier pricing, and maintain updated cost databases for hardware and sub-contracted services. Required:
Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Certification Requirements: Ability to obtain a Florida State JLA (Jessica Lunsford Act) Badge.
* AVIXA CTS, CTS-D, or manufacturer-specific credentials (e.g., Crestron Certified, Biamp Tesira certified).Experience Requirements:
* Minimum of 5 years of progressive estimating, engineering, or design experience within the commercial AV or low-voltage integration industry.
* Proven working knowledge of major AV manufacturers and platforms, specifically Crestron, Extron, and Biamp.
* Must be able to interpret complex architectural blue prints, single-line diagrams, AV signal flows, and wiring schematics.
* Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, along with experience using industry-standard estimating tools (such as D-Tools, Bluebeam, or similar software).
* Must posses excellent verbal and written communication skills to interface effectively with clients, vendors, and internal team members. Will be required to operate in noisy environments with temperatures higher or lower than standard office conditions. Must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. * Sitting at desk. Phone use and PC/laptop. May require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files. Extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone. Equipment and Machines * General office equipment includes but is not limited to PCs/laptops, telephones, copiers, servers, switches, routers, and other computer equipment that supports the network environment. * General field equipment includes but is not limited to hand tools, power tools, ladders, aerial/motorized lifts, and test equipment. * This position may require the operation of motor vehicles as an essential job function. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. The ability to operate company vehicles safely and responsibly is crucial. Employees may be subject to periodic motor vehicle record checks, and any discrepancies may impact eligibility for the position.
