Job description

The Production department works through the Program Office team to bring artist and creator visions to life by providing audio and visual production support.ย ย  There are multiple events each day; events can include music and orchestral productions, visual presentations, special functions, lectures, conferences, and meetings. Shift start times vary from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Be the consummate host by delivering safely functioning and well-maintained audio and video systems in support of a dynamic, engaging and memorable enrichment and entertainment program.

About Your Compensation

Compensation for this position starts at $16.50/Hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $25.00/Hour.

About Your Work Day

    • Acts as A2 - Audio for touring shows and events, providing professional audio support as front-of-house engineer and/or monitor engineer or system tech. Assist the A1 and production crew in setting up and โ€œringing outโ€ a live and/or reinforcement audio system with a full complement of wired and wireless microphones, stage and in-ear monitors, direct inputs, outboard gear, and striking of all equipment for each touring show or event.
    • Providing support with all backline and audio equipment rentals, delivery, and execution.
    • Provide audio support with all touring show and event audio operations, in compliance with the Chautauqua Institutionโ€™s vision and mission for excellence. Collaborate with visiting audio staff when required.
    • Provides audio production support for all building operations, events, and tours while demonstrating excellent customer service to all patrons, artists, and clients. Assist in executing respective technical riders and audio/video requests of tours and user groups.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Skills
    • Extensive knowledge of the methods, tools, and techniques used in the audio and video operation elements of live productions.
    • Proficiency in Dante, Radio Frequency (RF) Management, Yamaha Audio Desks, and Line array
      processing software.
    • Extensive experience with top-tier PA systems such as D&B Audiotechnik and Lโ€™Acoustics, as well as Pioneer DJ equipment and various active PA systems.
    • Knowledge of Q-SYS audio/video (A/V) control platform.
    • Knowledge of theater rigging.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy and to establish and meet deadlines promptly. Exceptional communication and collaborative skills with demonstrated ability to lead a team.
    • Job frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, climbing, or balancing; stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling; talking; hearing; handling objects with the hands; and lifting to 50 pounds.
    • The job occasionally requires sitting and lifting more than 75 pounds.
    • Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically, ability to distinguish colors.
    • Strong knowledge of computer applications in Windows and Mac environments and Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Office 365 applications (OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, etc.)

    Chautauqua Institutionโ€™s Referral Bonus Program is a talent solution to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse workforce that encompasses all the skills and experience necessary to deliver on our goals and objectives. Chautauqua Institution will provide a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees referring a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90-days from the first physical date of work. In the case of seasonal positions working less than 6-months, the new candidate must remain actively employed for at least 30-days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season. The closing date of the season is the last Sunday in August.

    About Your Schedule

    Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August.ย  Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability.ย  Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement.

    While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment, you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position:ย 

    Will be scheduled to work an average of 35-45 hours/week.ย  Scheduled hours will include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.ย  The Amphitheater Production Manager will determine pre-season hours but must be available to start June 6th, 2026.
