What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Audio Creative, and why are they important?

To excel as an Audio Creative, you need a strong understanding of sound design, audio editing, and music theory, often supported by a relevant degree or proven portfolio. Proficiency with digital audio workstations (DAWs) like Pro Tools or Ableton Live, as well as knowledge of audio plugins and industry-standard recording equipment, is crucial. Creative thinking, collaboration, and attention to detail are vital soft skills for producing compelling audio content and working effectively with clients or teams. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering innovative, high-quality audio projects that meet client or audience expectations.

How does an Audio Creative typically collaborate with other departments during a project?

Audio Creatives frequently work closely with teams such as marketing, video production, and client services to ensure that audio elements align with the overall vision of a campaign or production. This collaboration can involve brainstorming sessions, feedback rounds, and regular check-ins to integrate sound design, voiceovers, and music seamlessly with visual and narrative elements. Being adaptable and responsive to feedback from non-audio specialists is a key part of the role, helping to deliver a cohesive final product that meets both creative and technical standards.

What are Audio Creatives?

Audio Creatives are professionals who design, produce, and oversee audio content for various media, such as advertisements, podcasts, radio, video, and interactive experiences. They work with sound elements like music, voiceovers, sound effects, and audio branding to create engaging and effective messages. Audio Creatives often collaborate with clients, writers, and producers to ensure that audio content aligns with the intended mood, message, and audience. Their skills include audio editing, sound design, mixing, and an understanding of storytelling through sound.

Are you passionate about audio's role in supporting a player's ability to make split-second strategic decisions in the heat of action gameplay? Have you been waiting for a game that's craving joyful, iconic, stylized sound?

As the Audio Director at teamLFG, you will drive the creative and technical vision of an Unannounced Project, building upon existing design and audio prototypes through multidisciplinary playtests. You will develop and execute a strategy to hire a small team of internal and external audio developers. Most importantly, you will work with a fun, dedicated, and passionate cross-discipline team devoted to turning a creative dream into a new franchise at PlayStation.

We look for candidates who value joining a mission-focused team with a diverse set of backgrounds, experiences, interests, and viewpoints.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the development, communication, and execution of a joyful audio vision in accordance with project creative pillars and player experience goals

  • Accountable for providing clear objectives and creative direction while supporting the individual creativity and continued growth of audio team members

  • In coordination with the project leadership team, represent audio-facing staffing needs (incl. external partnerships) while facilitating the creation and acquisition of SFX, Music, and Dialogue assets

  • Support the iterative development of the audio technical stack and in-engine audio content creation workflows

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Proven ability to define, communicate, and deliver an audio vision for interactive projects

  • Excitement to collaborate with gameplay and narrative designers, artists, programmers, quality assurance experts, and producers to achieve a common goal

  • Strong ability to understand strategic clarity needs of action games (especially fighting games) and lead successful collaborations with design

  • Strong understanding of audio creative workflows, sound design craft, and interactive audio systems

  • Strong ability to work and communicate effectively in a remote-hybrid digital-first team (Slack, JIRA, Miro, Confluence)

  • Strong ability to make audio decisions that balance creative intent, technical performance, and project constraints

  • Ability to creatively align with the team and then take initiative locally and externally

  • Ability to operate autonomously while navigating ambiguity and holding a creative vision

  • Willingness and ability to occasionally flex into IC work as necessary as the team grows ("owner/operator")

  • Willingness and ability to utilize co-development as part of the audio production strategy

  • Embrace a "we" culture in addition to being an outstanding collaborator and communicator

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS

  • Shipped experience on a game with tight alignment between audio and player input (e.g., a fighting game or an action-platformer)

  • Shipped experience on a game with joyful stylized sound

  • Shipped experience on an online multiplayer game

  • Prior experience with audio co-development, as either first party or third party

  • "Soup to nuts" shipping experience in Unreal Engine (especially UE5) and WWISE

  • Solid knowledge of music composition and aesthetic appreciation of composers like Mort Garson, Koji Kondo, Louie Zong, and Ginger Root
