What is an audio and visual professional?

Audio and visual professionals are specialists who handle the technical aspects of sound and visual components for events, productions, broadcasts, and presentations. They are responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining equipment such as microphones, speakers, projectors, lighting, and video cameras. Their work ensures that audiences experience high-quality audio and visuals, whether at live events, in studios, or during virtual meetings. These professionals may also troubleshoot issues and collaborate closely with event organizers, producers, or clients to meet specific needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an audio and visual technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Audio and Visual Technician, you need a solid understanding of sound engineering, video production, and equipment setup, often supported by relevant technical training or certification. Familiarity with audio mixers, video switchers, digital signal processors, and software like Pro Tools or Adobe Premiere is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help technicians collaborate with clients and team members under tight deadlines. These abilities ensure seamless event production and high-quality audio-visual experiences for audiences.

What are some common challenges faced by audio and visual professionals when working on live events, and how can they be managed?

Audio and Visual professionals working on live events often encounter challenges such as unexpected technical issues, time constraints for setup, and adapting to different venues with varying acoustics and equipment. To manage these, it's essential to conduct thorough pre-event checks, maintain clear communication with event organizers, and have contingency plans for equipment failure. Collaborating closely with other technical teams and being adaptable helps ensure smooth event execution and enhances problem-solving on the spot.

Job description

Overview

Insight Global is seeking an AV & Collaboration Technician to join our Network Infrastructure Operations team. This role is responsible for supporting and maintaining conference room technology, collaboration platforms, and audio visual systems across corporate environments.

The ideal candidate is passionate about creating exceptional meeting experiences and takes pride in solving technical challenges. This individual will support Microsoft Teams Rooms, Cisco collaboration technologies, Webex platforms, room control systems, and enterprise AV hardware while partnering closely with Network Operations and IT teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing collaboration solutions.

Success in this role requires strong troubleshooting capabilities, attention to detail, a customer-focused mindset, and a commitment to continuous learning. We are looking for someone who takes initiative, embraces ownership, and actively seeks opportunities to improve both technology and processes. The ideal candidate leads through ownership, initiative, and technical excellence regardless of title or tenure.

Responsibilities
A DAY IN THE LIFE
  • Support and troubleshoot conference room and collaboration technologies including Microsoft Teams Rooms, Cisco RoomOS devices, Webex platforms, Neat devices, Logitech peripherals, and related AV hardware.
  • Respond to AV support requests, diagnose issues, and restore service with minimal disruption to end users.
  • Provide meeting support for executive meetings, leadership events, town halls, training sessions, and other high-visibility business events.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, room health audits, firmware updates, and equipment validation.
  • Assist with conference room deployments, refresh projects, hardware replacements, and room modernization initiatives.

  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, user experience, support processes, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of service and professionalism during time-sensitive situations.
THIS JOB IS FOR YOU IF
  • You enjoy solving technical problems and finding the root cause rather than implementing temporary fixes.
  • You take ownership of issues and follow them through to completion.
  • You are naturally curious and enjoy learning new technologies and expanding your technical skillset.
  • You take pride in delivering a great user experience and understand that reliable technology enables business success.
  • You can remain calm, professional, and organized when supporting high-profile meetings or resolving urgent issues.
