Among the premier universities in the region, AUC is Middle States accredited; its engineering programs are accredited by ABET, its chemistry program is accredited by the Canadian Society for Chemistry, the School of Business is accredited by AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS, and the Master of Public Administration and the Master of Public Policy programs of GAPP are accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and administration (NASPAA). The AUC libraries contain the largest English-language research collection in the region and are an active and integral part of the university's pursuit of excellence in all academic and scholarly programs. AUC is an English-medium institution; eighty-five percent of the students are Egyptian and the rest include students from nearly ninety countries, principally from the Middle East, Africa and North America. Job Description:

The Theatre Program in the Department of the Arts welcomes applications for an Assistant Professor of Acting beginning in Fall 2027. The Theatre program currently offers both a major and a minor in Theatre and has an active performance season. The candidate will teach introductory and advanced Acting and courses in performance, in a variety of styles, including Musical Theatre and Acting for the Camera. In addition to teaching these subjects, the candidate will be expected to teach general and introductory theatre courses as well as courses in the university's core curriculum program.


This position also entails directing one dramatic or musical theatre production annually in the season, directing undergraduates in various theatrical styles. The candidate is expected to maintain an active practice and/or research agenda and be actively involved in advising, department and university committees, and arts outreach. The ideal candidate will be a practicing artist or scholar with an interest in liberal arts education and in developing strong theatre artists within this context.


The AUC Theatre program is part of the Department of the Arts within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Department of the Arts includes Theatre, Music, Visual Arts, Film, and Graphic Design. The Theatre program is the oldest unit in the Department of the Arts and the founding art program at AUC. There are currently 55 majors and minors in the program and over 550 students enrolled in theatre classes each year. The program produces four faculty-directed main-stage plays per year, 2-4 student productions per year, and between 6-8 student performance showcases annually. The Theatre Program hosts guest artists and maintains a visible presence in the Cairo theatre community. There are currently five full-time Theatre faculty members.



Requirements:

Candidates should hold an MFA (preferred) in Acting or a PhD with the ability to teach performance-based courses and courses based on their expertise. Successful candidates should have an ongoing program of practice and research, as well as university experience teaching in a liberal arts educational system.
