Main Focus: Patents (Inventions, Designs, Processes)
Core Work: Draftin, Filing and prosecuting patent applications; advising on patentability; patent infringement litigation
Required Background (US): Technical or scientific degree (engineering, chemistry, biology, computer science, etc.)
Special Licensing: Must pass the USPTO Patent Bar in addition to being an expert witnesses.
Typical Client Needs: Protecting a new invention, responding to USPTO office actions, patent portfolio strategy.
Overlap: Some patent attorneys are also full-service IP attorneys, but not all
