Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) - Palliative Care
Position Overview
Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our inpatient Palliative Care team in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care for individuals with serious and complex illnesses. The APP will provide inpatient consultation services while contributing to education, academic initiatives, and program development.
Position Details
  • Specialty: Palliative Care
  • Location: Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist - Winston-Salem, NC
  • Employment Type: Full-Time (1.0 FTE)
  • Setting: Inpatient
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
  • Call: Rotating remote night and weekend call, approximately 7 weeks per year

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive inpatient palliative care consultations and follow-up care.
  • Collaborate with physicians, APPs, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient-centered treatment plans.
  • Assist patients and families with symptom management, goals-of-care discussions, advance care planning, and end-of-life care needs.
  • Participate in educational activities involving medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, program development, and academic initiatives within the division.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

Qualifications
Required
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current or eligible North Carolina licensure.
  • Board certification as:
    • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (NP), or
    • Physician Assistant (PA-C)
  • Eligibility for hospital privileges at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Preferred
  • Previous palliative care, hospice, critical care, or ICU experience.
  • Completion of a Palliative Care Fellowship Program.
  • Certification in hospice and palliative care, including:
    • Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse (ACHPN), or
    • NCCPA Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Candidates without certification are expected to obtain ACHPN or CAQ certification within two years of employment.
