We are seeking a Modeling & Simulation (M&S) Engineer to develop and integrate software models of combat system elements and algorithms for the Aegis Weapon System (AWS) and other defense systems. Join a motivated team that excels at enabling successful flight tests and building sponsor confidence in both current and innovative capabilities. We take pride in our ability to simulate warfighting capabilities, allowing a wide variety of teams to make vital recommendations in a timely manner.

As a Modeling & Simulation Engineer...

  • You will develop and prototype algorithms for new capabilities and integrate them with simulation tools to support concept exploration and provide future advanced capabilities to improve the performance of integrated air and missile defense systems.
  • You will assist in the verification and validation of high-fidelity combat system models.
  • You will be part of multi-functional research teams that identify and recommend the most suitable modeling and simulation approaches for study objectives.
  • You will collaborate with internal teams to review system requirements and proactively identify deficiencies.
  • You will architect integrated software solutions to optimize simulation workflows and support thorough analysis.
  • You will gain significant domain expertise in integrated air and missile defense systems.
Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Are proficient in modern C++ and Python.
  • Are proficient in using software revision control tools while working in a DevOps environment.
  • Have 2+ years of experience as a software engineer or in developing modeling and simulation tools.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Final Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have an MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Have previous experience working in the Department of Defense (DoD) or for a DoD prime contractor.
  • Are proficient in an extensive range of programming languages, including MATLAB, C++, Python, and Java, on both Linux and Windows platforms.
  • Have demonstrated experience applying AI/ML in software development workflows to streamline development and improve efficiencies.
  • Have demonstrated ability in system design, modeling and simulation, and/or verification and validation.
  • Are experienced in using Agile methods for product development.
  • Hold an active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
