About the Role
We're looking for a skilled Database & Data Platform Engineer to join our Data Management team. In this role, you'll be responsible for supporting and optimizing SQL Server environments while helping advance our modern data platform strategy through cloud technologies, automation, and data engineering initiatives.
This position combines traditional database administration with emerging cloud and data platform responsibilities, providing opportunities to work with SQL Server, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, data integration solutions, and modern data architecture. The ideal candidate is analytical, solutions-oriented, and passionate about building reliable, scalable, and high-performing data environments.
What You'll Do
  • Support and maintain SQL Server production, QA, and development environments to ensure availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Monitor database health, capacity, and performance, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Troubleshoot database and application-related incidents and participate in on-call support as needed.
  • Perform query tuning, performance optimization, indexing reviews, and execution plan analysis.
  • Manage backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions.
  • Administer database security, permissions, and access controls.
  • Support database upgrades, patching, migrations, and environment refresh activities.
  • Collaborate with developers, data engineers, and business stakeholders on database design and data requirements.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Support Microsoft Azure SQL, Azure data services, and cloud-based database initiatives.
  • Assist with Microsoft Fabric implementation, administration, and platform optimization.
  • Support Azure Data Factory pipelines and data integration processes.
  • Contribute to data engineering, ETL/ELT, and data modernization initiatives.
  • Develop automation solutions using PowerShell and other scripting tools to improve operational efficiency.
  • Participate in CI/CD, source control, monitoring, and deployment activities for database and data platform solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts that enhance reliability, scalability, and overall platform performance.

Qualifications
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in SQL Server database administration, database support, or a related role.
  • Strong experience supporting production SQL Server environments, including monitoring, performance tuning, troubleshooting, security, backup/recovery, and high availability.
  • Advanced T-SQL skills with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience supporting production incidents and participating in an on-call support environment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure SQL and other Azure data services preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, and cloud data platforms preferred.
  • Knowledge of data engineering, data warehousing, and ETL/ELT processes preferred.
  • Experience with PowerShell or other automation and scripting tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD processes, source control, monitoring tools, and Power BI is a plus.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and passion for modern data technologies.
