This full-time position involves providing intensive in-community therapeutic services to children facing developmental disabilities and intellectual challenges across Fresno, California. We are looking for compassionate professionals who are dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families through effective psychotherapy.

About the Organization

At Atlantis Psychotherapy Service, our mission is to deliver comprehensive youth and family support services tailored to the unique needs of children and teens with developmental and intellectual disabilities. We pride ourselves on fostering a dynamic, inclusive therapy environment that champions diversity and encourages collaboration among professionals from various disciplines. By offering a rich tapestry of mental health services, we strive to empower families in navigating the complexities of developmental challenges.

Work Environment

This position allows for a flexible remote work environment, enabling you to provide therapy sessions from the comfort of your home while also engaging with clients in our outpatient facility as needed. Our outpatient office serves as a space where you can hold group therapy sessions, conduct assessments, and collaborate with team members, ensuring a cohesive approach to care. Collaboration is foundational to our practice, and you will have access to ongoing training and support from experienced colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct individual therapy sessions and group therapy meetings, adapting your approach to the specific needs of each child.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to provide anger management counseling, develop coping strategies, enhance social skills, and mitigate high-risk behaviors including self-injurious behaviors (SIB) and physical aggression.
  • Work closely with caregivers to improve their decision-making skills and address in-home behavioral challenges.
  • Collaborate consistently with the Child Family Treatment Team and other interdisciplinary professionals to ensure comprehensive support for families.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation of client encounters, including intake forms, treatment plans, and progress notes, within established timelines.
  • Participate in monthly team meetings to share insights, submit recommendations, and adjust treatment strategies as necessary.
Patient Population / Client Focus

This role primarily focuses on children aged 3 to 20 who are experiencing developmental disorders and intellectual disabilities. You will work with a diverse group of children from various backgrounds, tailoring your therapeutic approach to meet their individual developmental needs. By providing targeted support, your role will be critical in helping these children achieve emotional well-being and life skills necessary for everyday functioning.

Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in Counseling, Family Therapy, Social Work, or a closely related field.
  • An active and unrestricted LMFT license recognized in California.
  • Availability for a minimum of 5-10 clinical hours per week, specifically during after-school hours from 4 PM to 7 PM, with weekend availability being a bonus.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a registered vehicle for travel to client homes or teams meetings as required.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, including fingerprinting.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in providing positive behavior support strategies.
  • Prior experience working effectively with children aged 3-20 who present with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Familiarity with community resources and support systems relevant to developmental disabilities.
  • Experience conducting family-based therapy sessions in both in-home and outpatient settings.
Compensation and Benefits

  • Short- and long-term disability insurance for peace of mind.
  • A 401(k) plan to help you plan for your financial future.
