Job description

The Sr Gas Scheduler will be responsible for the scheduling and tracking of the flow of natural gas from our upstream suppliers to our downstream customers. The Sr Gas Scheduler will also be responsible for vendor relations, analysis of supply needs and identifying efficient solutions to pipeline constraints, pipeline activity reconciliation, and ad hoc analytics in support of supply purchasing decisions.

Responsibilities

Scheduling

  • Submission of nominations (daily and monthly) to the appropriate utility, ISO, or natural gas pipeline
  • Accurately capture all scheduling related transactions in the ETRM
  • Develop professional relationships with schedulers from natural gas suppliers, ensuring necessary communication of nomination information occurs
  • Analyze supply needs by pipeline and LDC on a daily and monthly basis, effectively responding to critical notices issued by pipelines and LDCs
  • Navigate gas scheduling around pipeline and LDC maintenance, outages, and periods of operational constraint
  • Maintain MPG's daily and monthly imbalance positions and minimize related charges
  • Fosters strategic relationship development with internal stakeholders and external market participants
  • Ad hoc operational and financial modeling in support of company budgeting and decision making
  • Analytical support, to the Supply Manager, of supply purchases as well as injections to and withdrawals from storage
  • Monitor and execute pipeline capacity releases on a monthly basis
  • Maintain ETRM with most up-to-date transport, capacity, and fuel rates, per the tariff of each pipeline and utility.
  • Verify actualized customer consumption

Settlements

  • Support for customer invoicing, including review of ETRM calculations to ensure accuracy
  • Financial settlement support, including shadow settling of invoices received from suppliers, utilities, and pipelines

Communication

  • Daily communication with suppliers, customers, utilities, and pipelines to verify purchases, sales, and disruptions
  • Communication to the Supply Manager of schedule reductions
  • After hours on-call duty

Market Expansion Support

  • Interface with Risk Control to ensure compliance with corporate risk policy
  • Support configuration of ETRM related to market expansion
  • Comprehension of transportation contracts issued by pipelines
  • Comprehension of pipeline and utility imbalance calculations

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, business, engineering or equivalent experience
  • MBA preferred, but not required

Knowledge & Experience

  • 5 + years of experience scheduling natural gas
  • Previous experience where demonstrated critical thinking skills can be shown
  • Experience with the implementation of an ETRM preferred
  • Experience scheduling gas to Atlanta Gas Light, Piedmont, PSNC or Chicago utilities strongly preferred

Qualifications & Characteristics

  • Excellent analytical skills, ability to quickly understand, isolate and resolve issues
  • Self-directed, requiring little direct supervision or assistance
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Word

High level of proficiency in MS Excel is desirable

Work Environment

  • Hybrid schedule available after training completed (3 days in the office 2 days remote)
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and other computer components
