Position Summary:

The intercollegiate athletics program is an integral part of the university striving to achieve the same standardsexcellence in athletics that exist within academic programs. The program is concerned with the physicaland mental welfare of he student and strives to ensure that every athlete hasthe opportunity to succeed academically and obtain a degree. Sports programs are a vital function ofthe University at large.

The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports to the Director of Sports Medicine/ Head Athletic Trainer and Senior
Associate Athletic Director and is responsible for assisting in the direction of all aspects of the athletic training Program. This position exists to coordinate the prevention, managementand rehabilitation of athletic injuries Sustained by student-athletes in all 15 varsity sport programs, serving as the primary athletic trainer for Softballand Swim & Dive.

Job Duties:

75%   Prevent, provide acute treatment and rehabilitation for athletic injuries in student-athletes.
Major duties include:

  • Serving as the primary athletic trainer for assigned sports including travel with teams
  • Student-athlete education
  • Assist with inventory, budget, purchasing, and other athletic training administrative functions
  • Coordinate with team physicians, strength coaches, and other necessary personnel for student-athlete healthcare
  • Various administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine

20%       Educate and supervise athletic training students including competency sign-offs. Cooperate with the Athletic TrainingEducation Program administrative staff to assist with programs designed toeducate and train future athletic trainers.

  • Management of all education and clinical skills for each athletic training student
  • Oversight of multiple athletic training students per semester

5%          Execution of assignedadministrative duties within Sports Medicine Department.

  • Management of all medical files for 400+ student athletes once they are no longer at UNC to comply with HIPAA
  • Oversight of CPR certifications for all 50+ staff and coaches in athletics department

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry level athletic training position. Experience at the Division I collegiate level preferred.

BOC Certificationrequired; Colorado athletic training license or eligibility for license required; first-aid, CPR and AED certified.

Basic computerskills required (Microsoft Office Windows), communication, problem solving,management, supervisory and organizationalskills, ability to work well under pressure; knowledge of NCAArules and regulations. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required.
