Job Overview & Responsibilities

As a Mechanical/Propulsion Systems Test Engineer 3 with United Launch Alliance on the Operations Systems Engineering team at Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA., your main responsibilities include:

  • Develop test procedures and conduct system testing and operation of the Vulan and Atlas V launch vehicles and ground systems from receipt of the flight hardware through launch at our West and East Coast LaunchSites. Testing involves hazardous operations including transportation and hoisting operations, working with cryogenics, high-pressure gases and fluids.
  • Analyze test data including off-nominal data for accuracy.
  • Perform troubleshooting of vehicle and ground systems when anomalies occur.
  • Some testing may involve hazardous operations of systems including work at heights, confined spaces, ordnance, and propulsion fluids systems (cryogenic, non-cryogenic, hydraulics, and pneumatics).

Minimum of 4 years of related work experience

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience problem-solving, coordinating and presentation skills.
  • Experience with trouble shooting system and component failures for quick resolution
  • Experience working with a variety of Mechanical and Propulsion systems such as Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Hazardous Gas Detection, Cryogenic Umbilical and crane systems.  
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Must be available for periodic travel to the other ULA sites.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights and small spaces.
  • This position will require working extended hours, weekends, and 2nd or 3rd shifts as necessary to support vehicle processing and launch.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOD secret security clearance. US citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated strong team and project leadership with integration skills 
  • Proficient with technically leading teams
  • Proficient with Propellant systems component assembly and testing
  • Experience with Engineering Drawings utilizing CREO, NX and AutoCAD a plus
  • Experience working in the Aerospace industry
  • Experience working with manufacturers and contractors of propellant systems components

Summary Salary Range (for ULA - Vandenberg AFB only):  $99,498.00 - $165,830.00
