Job Description:

Join Pitney Bowes as a CDL A Lead Truck Driver, 1st Shift in Hartford, Connecticut at the Presort facility.


Your hourly pay will be $30.50, paid weekly with the opportunity for possible overtime.


Your 1st Shift schedule will be Monday - Friday from 8:00AM - 5:00PM EST. You must be flexible for occasional overtime and weekends if needed.

You will:

  • Communicate with the Transportation Supervisor or Manager and the Operations Team regarding any special, late, or missing pickups, and forward the information to the drivers.
  • Coordinate with production to ensure the mail is dispatched on time and ensure that all transportation tasks are completed.
  • Review pick-up slips for USPS supplies and communicate supply requests to the drivers; verify physical container counts to accompany customer pickup slips.
  • Inspect assigned vehicles per the PBPS pre-trip inspection guidelines and procedures daily and report any defective findings to the Transportation Supervisor to be fixed immediately.
  • Recommend measures to improve the performance of the transportation department.
  • Ensure the mail is reviewed for proper dates, presort slugs and a pick-up slip is attached with each order prior to loading on the truck.
  • Ensure all drivers are compliant with DOT regulations and assist in maintaining DOT files.
  • Maintain a daily vehicle inspection report.
  • Maintain a daily driver's log or route sheet for mileage and cargo.
  • Ensure USPS equipment is used only for the movement of "Live" mail.
  • Return client damaged or undeliverable mail, following internal handling procedures for damaged secured mail.
  • Use all required cell phone applications.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle assigned.
  • Assist in Quality Control or Barcode department between assigned pick-ups.
  • Fill in for drivers on any shift on any day of the week with little or no prior notice.
  • Keep the work area clean by ensuring mail bins are under machines or in APC's, plastic straps are off floor to prevent possible tripping hazards, and sweeping the floors between assigned pickups or deliveries, and all other duties as assigned.
  • Regular scheduled attendance is mandatory.

As a CDL A Lead Truck Driver IV, you have:

  • Minimum 21 years in age.
  • Valid state motor vehicle operator's license in state where driver resides (CDL Class A) and meets applicable DOT requirements for CDL.
  • Minimum of 6 months' verifiable driving experience with a tractor trailer (semi) truck and safe driving record
  • Can read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
  • Ability to drive any company vehicle.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle in compliance with Hours-of-Service regulations and company hours-worked program.
  • Ability to maintain a safe, courteous driving record.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Knowledge of USPS regulations and mailing standards
  • Ability to prepare reports and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and employees in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to communicate with Center Receiving any mail concerns such as missing pick-up slips, incorrect documented container count, or any other quality concerns noted.
  • Ability to understand and execute all driver quality procedures outlined in the Total Quality Management program.
  • Ability to read a map and understand directions.
  • Must have the ability to work mandatory overtime that may include weekends, holidays and or a different shift with little or no advance notice.
  • Ability to maintain delivery and pick up schedules, meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to solve basic problems that arise in the transportation environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodations.

For completing this work, Presort Services receives discounted postage rates. By performing this sorting work on behalf of our clients, weare able toshare a portion of that discount with them.
