Groundskeeper I 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM Monday – Friday (Part Time) 1250 Kings Hwy Lewes DE 19958 and Dover DE.

Knowledge

  • District policies and protocols for safety and compliance of building, grounds, and equipment
  • Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services for the school community

Skills

  • Evaluate cleanup and maintenance needs and utilizing available resources to meet student needs
  • Manage time and multiple tasks, prioritizing as needed to best serve students
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of factors in situations that may arise
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and the school community
  • Operation of equipment, including, but not limited to buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, extractors, lawn equipment,
  • snow removal equipment, etc.

Abilities

  • Written and Oral Comprehension — The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented

through spoken words and sentences.

  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Basic computer skills

Mandatory skills/certification(s) Requirement:  (Groundskeeper I with Cleaning Duties) -

Cape Henlopen District Office and

Weight Room:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Requires no specialized experience or specific expertise.
  • One (1) year related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Successful background check
  • Drug Test and Fingerprinting required


Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Groundskeeper is responsible for snow removal when needed with groundskeeping efforts.
  • In addition, they will be maintaining the cleanliness of Cape Henlopen District Office Building along with Cape Henlopen High School Annex Weight Room, also future; Athletic pole building our goal is our students and staff members can work and learn in an environment that is sanitary, clean, and orderly.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Willingness to accept guidance and suggestions.
  • Able to orally communicate effectively with co-workers and staff members.
  • Able to work independently and exercise initiative.
  • Position requires working/driving to each site during night hours
  • Able to work collaboratively as a team member with other staff.

  • Ensure building(s) are clean and safe for students and staff
  • Provide a safe environment for student and staff by eliminating hazards
  • Cleaning offices, vacuuming of carpets, sweeping mopping VCT flooring, weight room sanitization,
  • Stripping/waxing experience preferred
  • Dispose of trash and/or waste materials
  • Maintain a clean and tidy custodial closet
  • Respond to emergency calls for cleanup as needed
  • Focus Area: District Office/Auxiliary Weight Room/as assigned

Maintenance

  • Maintain floors, walls, doors, windows, furniture, and fixtures.
  • Report all incidents of damage or missing items to the buildings to the Chief Custodian
  • Ensure safe conditions on walks, driveways, and parking areas at all times, and may include snow removal during winter months snow removal of District Office sidewalk
  • Assist in loading and unloading supplies, equipment from carriers as assigned.
  • Maintain applicable equipment and ensure it is inspected regularly to assure safety and compliance.
  • Maintain appropriate inventories of maintenance supplies, materials, and equipment reporting replenishment tothe Chief Custodian
  • District Office Grounds pulling weeds around perimeter of building and clearing stairwell drains, also trimming shrubbery, landscape upkeep

Physical Demands

  • Continuous moderate effort or physical activity required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is

regularly required to frequently climb, crawl, and kneel. Frequently carry or move objects more than 25 pounds and
occasionally move objects of up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to sit.

  • The employee will regularly work indoors along with outdoors, possibly in adverse weather conditions, in outdoor

duties as assigned.
