POSITION:    Elementary Library / Media Teacher     

 

LOCATION:  Grandview and Botsford Elementary School

 

SCHEDULE:   2nd half of the 2025-26 School Year
SALARY:  Per the CEA Agreement
POSTING DATE:  December 2025

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education/Certification

 
  • Valid Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate 
  • An Educational Technology (NP) or Library / Media (ND) preferred
  • Strong knowledge and passion for elementary literature
  • Experience teaching elementary students
  • Experience in a related field of studies with relevant specialization and experience
  • Knowledge of current  instructional teaching methods and educational pedagogy
  • Knowledge of library and media curriculum and concepts
  • Ability to establish productive relationships with diverse learners for students, parents, and staff that allow for productive collaboration
  • Competency in student management and supervision
  • Understanding the academic and social-emotional needs of young children
  • Willingness to try and share new ideas, techniques, and strategies
  • Empathy and excellent interpersonal skills
 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

 
  • Extensive knowledge and interest in library/media instructional teaching methods and educational pedagogy to differentiate instruction based upon student learning styles
  • Knowledge of library/media curriculum and concepts  
  • Effective teaching skills to make classes interesting for students and encourage them to participate 
  • Patience and approachability so that students feel comfortable to try new learning 
 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

 
  • Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to assist in the selection of instructional materials; keeps students and teaching staff informed regarding new acquisitions for use in the classroom.
  • Serves as a ready resource to students to provide research and technology  assistance.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Develops and arranges educational displays.
  • Assists with the preparation and administration of the media budget. 
  • Supporting teachers with materials for special projects in the classroom.
 

PLANNING AND PREPARATION

 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current trends in media practice and information media 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the school's program and student information needs within that program
  • Establishes goals for the media program appropriate to the setting and the students served 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of resources, both within and beyond the school and district, and access to such
  • Plans the media program, integrated with the overall school program 
  • Develops a plan to evaluate the media program
