Description

Westminster College invites applications for an Adjunct Online Instructor to teach undergraduate Business Calculus in a 7-week, online, asynchronous format. The first courses will start October 19, 2026. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in online teaching, a commitment to student success, and the ability to facilitate engaging, high-quality learning experiences for adult and traditional undergraduate students.


This is a part-time, adjunct faculty position. Appointments are made on a course-by-course basis based on enrollment and program needs.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate Business Calculus courses in an asynchronous online learning environment.
  • Facilitate meaningful student engagement through timely communication, discussion facilitation, and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain an active instructor presence throughout the course.
  • Facilitate the course as designed to ensure consistent student experience and course outcomes across sections.
  • Evaluate student learning using established grading criteria and provide prompt assessment of assignments.
  • Maintain accurate course records and submit grades by institutional deadlines.
  • Adhere to college policies, academic standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in required faculty orientations and professional development activities as assigned.

Requirements

Job Requirements:

Education: Meet the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) faculty qualifications for teaching undergraduate coursework in Business Calculus, including:

  • A master's degree or doctoral degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, business analytics, economics with substantial quantitative coursework, or a closely related discipline or
  • A master's degree or doctoral degree in another field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credit hours in mathematics or an appropriate quantitative discipline directly related to the subject being taught.

Experience: ย 

  • Demonstrated experience successfully teaching undergraduate mathematics or business calculus courses.
  • Evidence of successful online teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • Completion of recognized online instructor training (such as Quality Matters, ACUE, OSCQR, Canvas certification, Blackboard certification, or an equivalent program), with documentation of completion required prior to appointment.
  • A documented record of effective teaching, supported by strong student evaluations or other evidence of teaching effectiveness.
  • Excellent written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems (Canvas preferred) and instructional technologies.
  • Experience teaching accelerated online courses.
  • Experience teaching adult and nontraditional learners.
  • Experience using active learning strategies and evidence-based online instructional practices.
  • Familiarity with Quality Matters standards or other online course quality frameworks.
  • Experience incorporating educational technology and data analytics into instruction.

Compensation: Compensation for teaching a course is $1,000/ credit-hour.
