Job Description
As a Senior Android Developer, you will serve as a technical anchor for the team, driving application architecture, modern UI paradigms, and taking full technical ownership of major engineering initiatives. You will work across the full software lifecycle-from conceptualization to deployment-ensuring our mission-critical applications remain reliable, performant, highly testable, and scalable.
Key Responsibilities:
Architect & Build: Lead the end-to-end technical design, system architecture, and development of complex mobile features for high-reliability environments using modern Android toolsets.
UI Modernization & Standards: Champion modern Android UI development using Jetpack Compose to build responsive, robust, and maintainable user interfaces.
Testing & Quality Leadership: Establish and drive automated testing strategies (unit, UI, and integration testing) to ensure high test coverage, application stability, and prevent regressions.
Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Drive technical excellence across the team by establishing coding standards, conducting thorough code reviews, and mentoring junior and mid-level engineers.
Ownership & Stability: Serve as a self-sufficient, hands-on technical lead accountable for application stability, performance, code quality, and technical debt mitigation.
Project Delivery: Plan, break down, and drive multiple concurrent technical initiatives to delivery, collaborating effectively with product management and platform teams.
Technical Communication: Articulate complex architectural trade-offs, technical strategies, and platform constraints clearly to both peer engineers and leadership.
Qualifications & Technical Skills
Required Qualifications:
  • Deep Android Expertise: In-depth mastery of the Android SDK, OS internals, framework lifecycle, and modern application architecture patterns (e.g., MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture).
  • Modern UI & Jetpack Compose: Proven experience building complex, performant UIs with Jetpack Compose and modern Jetpack libraries.
  • Language Proficiency: Advanced expertise in Kotlin and Java, including deep understanding of asynchronous programming (Coroutines, Flow/RxJava).
  • Automated Testing Mastery: Hands-on experience creating reliable automated test suites using Unit Testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockk/Mockito) and UI/Integration Testing frameworks (Espresso, Compose Test Framework, UI Automator).
  • Low-Level Development: Experience with C/C++ and the Android NDK/JNI for high-performance or native component integration.
  • Performance Optimization: Advanced skills in profiling and optimization, including CPU/memory profiling, thread management, battery optimization, and leak identification (LeakCanary, Android Studio Profiler).
  • Debugging & Troubleshooting: Superior root-cause analysis skills for tackling deep-seated OS, native, or multi-threaded bugs.
  • Engineering Ecosystem: Proficiency with modern Android development tools (Android Studio, Gradle), version control (Git), issue tracking (JIRA), CI/CD test integration, and Agile development methodologies.

Preferred / Plus Qualifications:
  • CI/CD Automation: Experience setting up automated build and test pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Fastlane) for continuous integration and delivery.
  • Security: Background in securing Android applications, hardware-backed key storage, or encryption standards relevant to public safety applications.

Target Base Salary Range: $96,500 - $123,000 USD
