Location: Washington, DC or Gaithersburg, MD

Salary: Up to $228,000 annually depending on qualifications, including relevant certifications, education, years of experience, and demonstrated experience supporting Federal Government programs within the field. Candidates with specialized expertise, industry-recognized certifications, and strong Federal contracting experience may be considered at the higher end of the range

Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Software Engineer IV to support the design, development, implementation, and sustainment of enterprise-scale web applications and database solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong full-stack web development experience combined with expertise in database architecture, data modeling, ETL, application security, and enterprise reporting systems. This role will work closely with data architects, data scientists, project managers, business intelligence, data quality, and cybersecurity teams to develop secure, scalable, and high-performing applications that meet complex business and technical requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Typically seven (7) years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Seven (7) years of experience as a full-stack web developer designing and implementing enterprise-scale, dynamic, and interactive web applications.
  • Experience developing web applications based on business requirements and technical specifications.
  • Strong programming experience with modern web development languages, frameworks, and application programming interfaces (APIs).
  • Experience developing online data processing and reporting systems.
  • Experience implementing web accessibility standards and data security/authentication requirements.
  • Experience designing and developing web services.
  • Experience analyzing and resolving database, application architecture, and application performance issues.
  • Experience with data modeling, database design, database implementation, and database administration.
  • Experience optimizing database performance and validating functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Experience developing Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes for organizational data warehouses.
  • Experience supporting data warehousing, reporting, analytics, and business intelligence activities.
  • Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and debugging operational issues in new and existing web applications.
  • Experience collaborating with data architects, data scientists, project managers, business intelligence teams, data quality teams, and cybersecurity professionals.
  • Experience throughout the software development lifecycle, including automated testing, technical documentation, source code/version control, change management, release management, and configuration management.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop effective, scalable solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience developing applications using Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar modern programming languages.
  • Experience with modern web frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue.js, .NET, Spring, or similar technologies.

  • Analyze and resolve application, database, architecture, integration, and performance issues.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot operational issues affecting production and non-production applications.
  • Implement application security, authentication, authorization, and data protection requirements.
  • Ensure applications comply with applicable accessibility and usability standards.
  • Collaborate with data architects, data scientists, business intelligence teams, data quality teams, cybersecurity professionals, and project managers.
  • Support automated testing, source code management, documentation, configuration management, change management, and release activities.
  • Participate throughout the full software development lifecycle.
  • Evaluate existing applications and recommend improvements to architecture, performance, security, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Support the development and implementation of technical solutions that meet business requirements and enterprise standards.
