Is 200,000 enough to work with a financial advisor?

For an Associate Wealth Management Advisor, having $200,000 in assets can be sufficient to establish a client-advisor relationship, as many advisors set minimum investment thresholds ranging from $50,000 to $250,000. The advisor's services, fee structures, and client requirements vary, so the adequacy depends on the specific advisor's policies and the scope of financial planning needed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Associate Wealth Management Advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Wealth Management Advisor, you need a solid understanding of financial planning, investment strategies, and regulatory requirements, often supported by a bachelor's degree in finance or a related field. Familiarity with financial planning software, CRM platforms, and certifications like the Series 7 or CFP are typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to build trust with clients help you stand out in this role. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering tailored financial advice, maintaining compliance, and fostering long-term client relationships.

What is the difference between Associate Wealth Management Advisor vs Financial Advisor?

AspectAssociate Wealth Management AdvisorFinancial Advisor
CredentialsTypically requires a Series 7 and 66 licenses, sometimes a CFP designationOften holds Series 7, 66, and CFP or CFA certifications
Work EnvironmentSupports senior advisors, works in banks, investment firms, or financial planning companiesProvides comprehensive financial planning and investment advice directly to clients
Employer & Industry UsageCommonly employed by wealth management firms, banks, and financial institutionsUsed across independent firms, banks, and financial planning practices

While both roles involve client financial services, an Associate Wealth Management Advisor primarily supports senior advisors and handles client onboarding and administrative tasks. A Financial Advisor offers direct, personalized financial planning and investment advice to clients, often with more client-facing responsibilities. The Associate role is often a stepping stone toward becoming a full Financial Advisor.

What does an associate wealth advisor do?

An associate wealth management advisor supports senior advisors by preparing financial plans, conducting research, and managing client accounts. They assist with investment strategies, client communication, and may pursue certifications like the CFP to advance in the field.

What are the typical responsibilities of an Associate Wealth Management Advisor in supporting senior advisors and clients?

As an Associate Wealth Management Advisor, you will often assist senior advisors by preparing financial plans, conducting research on investment options, and managing client communications. Your day-to-day tasks may include scheduling client meetings, gathering and analyzing financial data, and ensuring all documentation is compliant with regulatory standards. This role also involves collaborating closely with team members to deliver a high level of service and support for clients, which helps you gain hands-on experience and develop the skills necessary for advancement within the firm.

How many financial advisors make $500,000 a year?

While some top-performing associate wealth management advisors can earn $500,000 or more annually, such high earnings are typically achieved through a combination of base salary, commissions, and bonuses, often reflecting extensive experience, a large client base, and advanced certifications like the CFP or CFA. Most advisors earn a median income significantly lower, with top earners representing a small percentage of the profession.

What does an Associate Wealth Management Advisor do?

An Associate Wealth Management Advisor assists clients with managing their financial assets and developing strategies to help them achieve their financial goals. They typically work under the supervision of senior advisors, helping with client onboarding, portfolio analysis, research, and preparing financial plans. Their duties often include communicating with clients, researching investment opportunities, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. This role is a key stepping stone for those looking to advance in the wealth management industry.

Is 500,000 enough to work with a financial advisor?

As an Associate Wealth Management Advisor, working with a client who has $500,000 in assets is common, and many advisors set minimum investment thresholds around this amount. However, the suitability of working with a financial advisor depends on individual financial goals, complexity, and the advisor's policies, not solely on the asset amount. Clients with $500,000 can typically access comprehensive financial planning and investment management services.

Job description

Wealth Management Advisor

Some of the best financial professionals we know didnโ€™t start in finance. They came from education, real estate, healthcare, sales, or the military. What they had in common: people trusted them, and they were ready to build something of their own.

Thatโ€™s exactly who weโ€™re looking for at Strategic Financial Group. This is a business-building opportunity, not a desk job. Youโ€™ll work with clients to protect what theyโ€™ve built and help them grow long-term wealth, using relationships youโ€™ve already spent years earning. We run a non-captive model backed by MassMutual, which means you keep your independence while gaining access to world-class resources.

The Opportunity

  • A Structured Path into Advising: We provide a structured onboarding experience, mentorship, and training to help you successfully transition into financial services.
  • Income Support & Performance Upside: We offer a 2-year training stipend + commission model to support your transition into the role while you build your book of business, allowing your success and effort to directly drive your income.
  • Client Ownership from Day One: Unlike many firms, our advisors build and retain ownership of their client relationships from the start, empowering you to grow your own book of business and establish long-term equity in your work.
  • Leverage Your Network: Build a business rooted in relationships youโ€™ve already developed, helping people you know make informed financial decisions.
  • Comprehensive Support: Our advisors are backed by a dedicated in-house team across marketing, financial planning, product solutions, and compliance support, so you can stay focused on building relationships and delivering value to clients.
  • Collaborative, Entrepreneurial Culture: We pride ourselves on a team-oriented environment that blends collaboration with an entrepreneurial spirit. Advisors are supported, challenged, and celebrated as they grow their careers.

About us

As a collaborative, values-driven firm, we combine the feel of a boutique practice with a strong commitment to mentorship, professional growth, and community impactโ€”offering a clear path to becoming a Financial Advisor through licensing support, training, and hands-on experience.

Skills & Experience

  • Willingness to obtain State Life & Health, FINRA SIE, Series 7, Series 66 licenses (sponsorship provided)
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Finance, Economics, or a related Field preferred
  • Strong communicator, comfortable building relationships and clearly expressing ideas with clients and team members
  • Strong personal or professional network
  • Motivated, collaborative, and coachable, with an entrepreneurial mindset and a genuine interest in helping others reach their goals
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Featured benefits:

  • Uncapped commission structure
  • Licensing & Certification Support
  • Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance
  • 401(k)
