What does an associate wealth management advisor do?

An Associate Wealth Management Advisor assists clients with managing their financial assets and developing strategies to help them achieve their financial goals. They typically work under the supervision of senior advisors, helping with client onboarding, portfolio analysis, research, and preparing financial plans. Their duties often include communicating with clients, researching investment opportunities, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. This role is a key stepping stone for those looking to advance in the wealth management industry.

What are the typical responsibilities of an associate wealth management advisor in supporting senior advisors and clients?

As an Associate Wealth Management Advisor, you will often assist senior advisors by preparing financial plans, conducting research on investment options, and managing client communications. Your day-to-day tasks may include scheduling client meetings, gathering and analyzing financial data, and ensuring all documentation is compliant with regulatory standards. This role also involves collaborating closely with team members to deliver a high level of service and support for clients, which helps you gain hands-on experience and develop the skills necessary for advancement within the firm.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate wealth management advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Wealth Management Advisor, you need a solid understanding of financial planning, investment strategies, and regulatory requirements, often supported by a bachelor's degree in finance or a related field. Familiarity with financial planning software, CRM platforms, and certifications like the Series 7 or CFP are typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to build trust with clients help you stand out in this role. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering tailored financial advice, maintaining compliance, and fostering long-term client relationships.

What is the difference between Associate Wealth Management Advisor vs Financial Advisor?

AspectAssociate Wealth Management AdvisorFinancial Advisor

Wealth Management Advisor

Strategic Financial Group

Houston, TX โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement

Job description

Some of the best financial professionals we know didn't start in finance. They came from education, real estate, healthcare, sales, or the military. What they had in common: people trusted them, and they were ready to build something of their own.

That's exactly who we're looking for at Strategic Financial Group. This is a business-building opportunity, not a desk job. You'll work with clients to protect what they've built and help them grow long-term wealth, using relationships you've already spent years earning. We run a non-captive model backed by MassMutual — meaning you're not limited to a single company's products, and you keep your independence while gaining access to world-class resources.

The Opportunity

  • Leverage Your Network: Build a business rooted in relationships you already have, helping people you know make informed, confident financial decisions.
  • Client Ownership from Day One: Unlike many firms, you build and retain ownership of your client relationships from the start, establishing real long-term equity in the business you build.
  • Income Support & Performance Upside: A 2-year training stipend plus commission model supports your transition into the role while you build your book — so your success and effort directly drive your income.
  • A Structured Path into Advising: Structured onboarding, mentorship, and training help you make a confident transition into financial services, whatever your background.
  • Comprehensive Support: You're backed by a dedicated in-house team across marketing, financial planning, product solutions, and compliance — so you can stay focused on the relationships that got you here.
  • Collaborative, Entrepreneurial Culture: A team-oriented environment where advisors are supported, challenged, and celebrated as they grow their careers.

About Us

Strategic Financial Group (SFG) is a full-service financial planning firm that's served the Houston community since 1903 — helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate complex financial decisions through thoughtful, goal-oriented planning. Our advisors provide holistic guidance across wealth management, retirement, risk management, business planning, and special needs planning, always with a people-first approach. We combine the feel of a boutique practice with a strong commitment to mentorship, professional growth, and community impact — offering a clear path into financial services through licensing support, training, and hands-on experience.

Skills & Experience

  • A strong personal or professional network built through prior experience in fields like sales, real estate, healthcare, education, or the military
  • Willingness to obtain State Life & Health, FINRA SIE, Series 7, Series 66 licenses (sponsorship provided)
  • Strong communicator, comfortable building relationships and clearly expressing ideas with clients and team members
  • Motivated, collaborative, and coachable, with a genuine interest in helping others reach their goals
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Featured Benefits

  • 2-year training stipend + commission
  • Licensing & Certification Support
  • Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance
  • 401(k)

Ready to build a business on relationships you've already earned? Apply today.
