The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Progression and Student Success is responsible for leading Student Services coordinated care systems to ensure students progress through their academic goals, complete credentials, and support the transition into sustaining-wage careers. This position will collaborate with leadership in Academic Affairs and the Center for Workforce Initiatives to ensure Student Services staff have access to current labor market information and skills validation resources to support integrated and consistent career readiness strategies. This role leads CCD’s Student Services student progression infrastructure, integrating career, academic, and financial aid advisement into a cohesive system of coordinated care. Given that a majority of CCD students experience financial barriers and constraints and a significant proportion are Pell-eligible, this role ensures that financial aid and financial mastery is fully integrated into the Division of Student Services and supports career readiness and student success strategies to elevate student success progression, persistence, and completion. This position will be responsible for the Financial Aid unit and will supervise the Director of the Office of Financial Aid. This position will also supervise the unit responsible for Student Success Technology and Student Communications, utilizing systems such as, but not limited to EAB Navigate 360 as the technology behind coordinated care. In addition, this position will also supervise other relevant federal, state, local grant or institutionally funded relevant programs assigned. This AVP will champion a Student Services division-wide culture of career readiness that integrates the college-directed strategy and goals created to support professional competencies and career connections across the student experience This position will develop and implement a comprehensive Student Services strategy that supports the implementation of career development across the student experience continuum in the departments that report to the VP Student Services; contribute to institutional reporting and compliance for the Division of Student Services related to career support and outcomes, state workforce data tracking, and accreditation requirements; and lead CCD’s Division of Student Services student progression infrastructure, integrating advisement of academic, financial, student success technology, and career exploration and readiness into a cohesive system. Duties & Responsibilities: Student Progression & Coordinated Care Strategy Lead institutional strategy, within the Division of Student Services, for student progression and a coordinated care model that integrates college-wide areas of advisement and career exploration and readiness across the student lifecycle. Establish proactive intervention systems using student data (e.g., early alerts, financial risk indicators, course success and progression, engagement metrics, etc.). (Re)design Student Services guidelines, practices, and processes to remove barriers and improve student success outcomes towards economic mobility. Ensure alignment of student success strategies with institutional goals for retention, completion, and economic mobility Career Readiness & Student Success Integration In partnership with relevant college stakeholders from Academic Affairs and the Center for Workforce Initiatives, develop and implement a comprehensive, Division of Student Services-wide career exploration and readiness strategy embedded from recruitment and student onboarding through completion and transfer to a university or the workforce. Integrate career exploration and readiness strategies and practices into Student Services areas of advisement such as but not limited to recruitment, admissions, student onboarding, financial aid, academic advisement, pathway advisement, and student success advisement. Ensure students engage in career exploration and exposure, goal setting, and pathway alignment early and throughout their academic experience. Partner with and serve as a key liaison with external and internal partners. Internal partners shall include Academic Affairs, the Center for Workforce Initiatives, and other Division of Student Services departments to support the goal of all students engaging in even access to career exploration and exposure and applied learning. Promote, within the Division of Student Services, equitable and early access to already established avenues of career exposure related experiences that the College’s Division of Academic Affairs and the Center for Workforce Initiatives teams or the community has available, such as but not limited to internships, shadowing, volunteer opportunities, apprenticeships, and other applied learning experiences. Strategy and Leadership for Student Financial Mastery and Success Position financial aid as a core component of student success and retention, particularly for a student population in which a majority of FAFSA applicants are Pell-eligible and financial barriers significantly impact persistence. Integrate financial aid advisement into the coordinated care model, ensuring students receive timely, accurate, and proactive guidance on affordability and funding options from recruitment and onboarding through completion and transfer to the university or the workforce. Use data to identify patterns related to financial barriers and stop-out risk and implement strategies to mitigate these barriers. Partner with various college departments to streamline processes related to financial support, financial mastery, and student communications. Lead efforts to simplify and integrate student understanding of program of study costs, and financial decision-making while linking decision-making to career choice. Oversight of Student Success Technology (Coordinated Care Systems) Oversee implementation, optimization, and utilization of student success technologies, including Navigate 360 and related systems. Lead the maintenance, evolution, and continued improvements of coordinated care and communication strategies that support student engagement, persistence, and progression. Ensure effective use of technology for: Educational case management and advisement workflows Early alert systems Targeted student outreach and nudging Student success data reporting and data informed decision making Partner with Institutional Research to enhance system integration, data quality, and reporting recommendations. Data, Reporting, and Compliance Serve as Student Services voice to support college structures that are already in place with regards to institutional and accreditation compliance reporting related to efforts such as: Career outcomes and wage data State workforce data tracking Financial aid compliance reporting Student Success Technology such as Navigate360 and Gecko Use disaggregated data to identify equity gaps and student success opportunities, including but not limited to those related to financial constraints and persistence Partner with Institutional Research to recommend enhancements of dashboards that support cross-functional student success decision-making Equity-Centered Systems Design Ensure college systems and resources reflect student needs based on the realities and lived experiences of first-generation students, adult learners, historically marginalized learners, and financially vulnerable populations Advance equity through systemic, not programmatic or performative change Operational & Fiscal Leadership Develop and manage budgets, staffing models, and resource allocation Ensure efficient service delivery within resource constraints Lead process improvement efforts to increase impact and scalability of student success interventions as directed Organizational Effectiveness Supervise, coach, and develop staff and leaders across assigned units Build leadership capacity and shared accountability Foster a culture of collaboration, care, and continuous improvement Lead change management for institutional transformation initiatives Competencies/KSAs: Comprehensive knowledge of student development, student success, strategic enrollment management, retention, persistence, completion, and career readiness best practices. Knowledge of financial aid administration and its impact on student access and success. Knowledge of equity-minded leadership and systemic approaches to removing barriers to student achievement. Knowledge of higher education governance, accreditation, federal and state regulations, FERPA, and applicable compliance requirements. Leadership coaching and talent development. Minimum Qualifications: Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, Counseling, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field. Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education, including at least three (3) years supervising multiple functional areas at the director, dean, assistant vice president, or equivalent level. Demonstrated success leading strategic initiatives that improve student progression, persistence, completion, transfer, and/or post-completion outcomes. Experience leading cross-functional teams and building partnerships across Student Services, Academic Affairs, Information Technology, Institutional Research, and external partners. Experience supervising professional staff, developing leaders, managing organizational change, and fostering accountability. Experience developing, managing, and monitoring departmental or divisional budgets. Experience using student success data and technology to improve organizational effectiveness and student outcomes. Working knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations and the role of financial aid in supporting student success. Experience supporting equity-centered institutional change through policy, systems redesign, and continuous improvement. Preferred Qualifications: Experience: Community college leadership experience. Experience at a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), Minority-Serving Institution (MSI), or other access-focused institution. Experience overseeing Financial Aid, Student Success Technology, CRM, career development, and coordinated care systems. Experience implementing or optimizing student success technologies such as EAB Navigate360, Banner, Ellucian Recruit CRM, Gecko, or similar enterprise systems. Experience leading strategic enrollment management, student success, or institutional transformation initiatives. Experience working with workforce development, career readiness, or employer partnerships. Experience with accreditation, grant-funded initiatives, and institutional reporting.
