1) Apprentice Base Wage Starting at:
$21.28 per hour
$34.24 Total Package with benefits
2) Journeyman Base Wage Starting at: $38.69 per hour
$61.50 Total Package with benefits
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Security Installation Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining electronic security systems including CCTV, access control, intrusion alarms, intercoms, and related hardware and software. This position requires strong technical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work and exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Install and configure surveillance cameras, access control systems, intrusion alarms, intercoms, and related security devices.
  • Install, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling including Cat5e, Cat6, coaxial, and fiber optic cable.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and commission installed systems to ensure proper functionality.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and construction documents.
  • Coordinate work with project managers, customers, electricians, IT personnel, and other trades.
  • Train customers on system operation and basic maintenance.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and service work.
  • Complete daily documentation, service reports, and project records accurately.
  • Maintain company tools, equipment, vehicles, and inventory.
  • Follow OSHA requirements, company safety policies, and applicable building codes.
  • Maintain professional relationships with customers while representing Utilitra.
  • Cross-train in all facets of the division to expand technical capabilities and support operational needs.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be willing and able to join the IBEW.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification, apprenticeship, or associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience installing low-voltage security systems or related technologies.
  • Working knowledge of electronic security systems and structured cabling.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Basic understanding of IP networking concepts including TCP/IP, switches, PoE, and IP addressing.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, cable testing equipment, and installation tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully pass required background checks and drug screening.
  • Ability to work overtime, evenings, or weekends when project schedules require.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Genetec, Axis, Hanwha, HID, Mercury, or similar enterprise security platforms.
  • Experience installing IP-based video surveillance and access control systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic IT knowledge including networking, servers, workstations, and telecommunications.
  • Manufacturer certifications are a plus.

Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb throughout the workday.
  • Work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms.
  • Work in indoor and outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions.
  • Work in construction environments including ceilings, crawl spaces, equipment rooms, and unfinished buildings.
  • Lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to distinguish wire colors and perform detailed wiring and termination work.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to safely operate hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and computers.

Travel Requirements:
  • Daily travel to customer job sites throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area and surrounding region.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required for projects, manufacturer training, or certifications.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the Company's vehicle insurance policy.
