The opportunity:

Thomson Power Systems (a Regal Rexnord company) is a leading manufacturer of electrical products and systems with over 50 years of industry experience. We are seeking a talented Engineering Manager to lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting custom-engineered switchgear, control panels, and electrical distribution products. Based in Langley, BC, this role is responsible for people leadership, technical oversight, and the execution of engineering projects aligned with business objectives, customer requirements, and manufacturing capabilities. The Engineering Manager will collaborate closely with Project Management, Quoting, R&D, Production, RBS, and Supply Chain to drive performance, technical excellence, and continuous improvement through the Regal Rexnord Business System (RBS). This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual looking to contribute to a fast-growing organization and build a long-term career.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of electrical and mechanical engineers and designers, providing coaching, mentorship, performance management, and career development.
  • Own engineering execution for custom-engineered and standard products, ensuring delivery is on time, within scope, and meets quality standards.
  • Provide technical oversight and decision-making authority for switchgears, control panels, and electrical distribution products.
  • Ensure customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and applicable engineering standards are fully understood and incorporated into designs.
  • Partner with the Plant Manager and cross-functional teams to align engineering priorities with business objectives and production capacity.
  • Establish and maintain engineering best practices, standard work, design guidelines, and documentation processes to improve efficiency, quality, and scalability.
  • Assist New Product Development (NPD) initiatives with technical reviews and support.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, design standardization, manufacturability, and lead time reduction.
  • Lead the resolution of complex technical, quality, and field issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Oversee development and maintenance of test plans, validation procedures, and design verification activities.
  • Support customer engagements, including technical reviews, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and issue resolution.
  • Manage departmental workload, priorities, and resource allocation to meet operational and strategic objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with internal processes, safety requirements, and applicable engineering standards and codes.
  • Define, track, and communicate key performance metrics to business leaders and cross-functional teams.
  • Build organizational capability by fostering a high-performance culture grounded in Regal Rexnord values and employee engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional engineering certification (P.Eng.), preferably in British Columbia.
  • 10+ years of technical experience in switchgears and power distribution products.
  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in engineering or comparable technical roles within a manufacturing or engineered-to-order environment.
  • Recognized subject matter expert (SME) in switchgear products.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable switchgear standards, including UL 891, UL 1066, UL 1558, CSA C22.2, ANSI C37.20.2, UL 1008, ANSI/IEEE C37.04 & C37.06 and NEC/CEC.
  • Familiar with CAD tools and engineering change management processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of ERP (e.g. SAP or equivalent).
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10%.
