JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking an experienced IT Systems Engineer to serve as a senior technical resource within our Information Technology team. This role goes beyond day-to-day end-user support, taking ownership of the design, implementation, and ongoing optimization of our enterprise systems, servers, and network infrastructure. The IT Systems Engineer serves as an escalation point for complex technical issues, leads infrastructure projects, and partners with IT leadership to strengthen the organization’s security posture, system reliability, and long-term technology roadmap.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (not all inclusive)

  • Infrastructure Design & Engineering: Design, implement, and maintain enterprise servers, network infrastructure, and virtualization/storage systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security across the environment.
  • Escalation & Advanced Troubleshooting: Serve as the senior escalation point for complex hardware, software, and network issues that cannot be resolved at the help desk level; perform root cause analysis on recurring or critical incidents.
  • Project Leadership: Lead IT infrastructure projects from planning through implementation, including system upgrades, migrations, and new technology rollouts.
  • Security & Compliance: Own the ongoing configuration, monitoring, and hardening of firewalls, security gateways, endpoint protection, and email filtering systems; support security audits and compliance initiatives.
  • System Administration: Administer and optimize Microsoft Exchange, MS Office 365, Active Directory, virtualization, and backup/disaster recovery and storage infrastructure (NAS/SAN/iSCSI).
  • Network Engineering: Manage and optimize LAN/WAN architecture, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, VPN,SD-WAN and wireless infrastructure; monitor network performance and capacity.
  • End-User Support: Provide comprehensive support for desktop systems, MS Office, printer support, and phone systems. Assist clients with hardware/software service and application issues.
  • Process & Documentation: Assist in development and maintenance of policies, processes, procedures, and best practices. Monitor ticketing system and ensure proper ticket creation and documentation of the resolution process. Maintain internal IT documentation.
  • Automation & Standardization: Develop scripts, automation, and standardized imaging/deployment processes to improve efficiency and consistency across the IT environment.
  • Vendor & Procurement Management: Evaluate and manage relationships with technology vendors and service providers; research and recommend hardware, software, and licensing solutions.
  • Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Mentor and provide technical guidance to Help Desk Associates; contribute to the development of IT documentation, processes, and best practices.
  • Travel: Travel to other company locations as needed to support infrastructure projects and systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or 5+ years of progressive IT systems administration, network engineering, or infrastructure experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Server environments, Active Directory, and enterprise networking (routing, switching, firewalls, VLANs).
  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise infrastructure projects.
  • Strong scripting/automation skills (PowerShell or equivalent).
  • Experience with virtualization, backup/disaster recovery, and storage technologies (NAS/SAN/iSCSI).
  • Strong understanding of IT security best practices, including firewalls, endpoint protection, and email security.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.


Preferred:

  • Relevant certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, VCP, CCNA, CCNP
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to junior IT staff.
  • Experience supporting IT infrastructure in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
