Job description

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Staff accountant is primarily responsible for the preparation of corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary and other tax returns prepared by the firm. Also is assigned to perform audit procedures for specific accounts and transactions under the supervision of more experienced staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Perform assigned audit procedures for specific accounts and transactions under the supervision of more experienced staff.
  2. Become proficient in the preparation and completion of corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary and other tax returns prepared by the firm.
  3. Assume responsibility for the completion of tax returns under the supervision of more experienced staff.
  4. Perform part or the complete accounting cycle for assigned clients under the supervision of more experienced staff.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

5. Perform other duties as assigned from time to time by the senior accountants, engagement managers, or engagement partners.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Involves work in the firm's office or on the client's premises. Work on the client's premises may require the use of the staff member's personal car.
  1. Moderate to low overtime required throughout the year. High level of overtime may be required to complete audit and tax engagements.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must have at least a college undergraduate degree and have completed at least 30 hours in college-level accounting courses.
  2. Staff accountants normally have zero to three (0-3) years’ experience in public accounting.
  3. CPA License strongly preferred.
  4. Should become familiar with the firm's policies and procedures.
  5. Understand the AICPA's Code of Professional Conduct, generally accepted auditing standards, and the accounting standards established by relevant designated standard-setting bodies.
  6. Become familiar with pertinent IRC sections and regulations.
  7. Obtain a working knowledge of tax and accounting research techniques and the various research sources in the firm library.
  8. Obtain a working knowledge of firm technology, including time and billing software.
  9. Computer literate in Microsoft Office application such as Word, Excel, Power Point, teams and outlook.
  10. Excellent verbal and written skills.
