Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL Developer with strong expertise in Amazon Redshift and other major database technologies to join our data team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining complex SQL solutions that support business intelligence, analytics, and operational reporting needs. This role requires deep experience in database development, performance tuning, data modeling, and ETL processes. Experience with AWS cloud technologies and working knowledge of Python are strong pluses.
Work Mode: We are made up of high performing teams that meet in person to learn and collaborate as needed. This role is considered hybrid, which means you'll be coming into the Boston office 2 days a week and given the flexibility to work remotely the rest of the time.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and database objects.
  • Build and optimize scalable data solutions in Amazon Redshift for analytics and reporting.
  • Develop and support ETL/ELT processes for loading, transforming, and validating large datasets.
  • Analyze and improve database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, and schema optimization.
  • Work with cross-functional teams including data engineers, analysts, BI developers, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver data solutions.
  • Design and maintain logical and physical data models to support business needs.
  • Ensure data integrity, accuracy, security, and compliance across database platforms.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.
  • Support database migration and modernization initiatives, including cloud-based data warehouse solutions.
  • Document database designs, processes, standards, and best practices.
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to SQL development standards and code reviews.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in SQL development, database programming, or data engineering roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Amazon Redshift.
  • Advanced proficiency in writing and optimizing complex SQL queries.
  • Experience with one or more major relational database technologies such as:
    • PostgreSQL
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • Oracle
    • MySQL
    • Snowflake or other enterprise data warehouse platforms
  • Solid understanding of database design, normalization, dimensional modeling, and performance tuning.
  • Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AWS cloud technologies, such as:
    • S3
    • AWS Glue
    • Lambda
    • RDS
    • EC2
    • IAM
    • CloudWatch
  • Knowledge of Python for scripting, automation, or data processing.
  • Experience with BI/reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
