Position Summary
Join STERIS as an Associate Software Engineer to develop and support software solutions that support healthcare customers. In this role, you will work as part of a collaborative R&D team, helping to design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications using modern Microsoft technologies. You will partner with experienced engineers, product managers, and quality engineers to solve technical challenges, deliver new features, and improve product quality. This position provides a strong foundation in software engineering practices, offering opportunities for mentorship, continuous learning, and professional growth within a fast-paced product development environment. *This position is located onsite in Vernon Hills, IL with the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule.
What You'll Do as an Associate Software Engineer
  • Develop, test, debug, and maintain software applications using Microsoft .NET technologies and related development tools.
  • Participate in Agile planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with product team, quality engineers, and senior developers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Create and execute unit, integration, and automated tests to ensure software quality, performance, and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot application issues, analyze root causes, and assist in implementing corrective actions.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, including requirements, design specifications, and deployment procedures.
  • Participate in code reviews and design discussions to learn and apply software engineering best practices.
  • Support software deployments, monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Follow established development, security, and quality standards to deliver reliable and maintainable software.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of software development experience.
  • 3+ years C#, .NET, and related Microsoft development technologies.
  • Experience developing and maintaining database-driven applications using SQL Server and/or Oracle.
  • Experience with source control systems such as Git and modern software development practices.
  • Working knowledge of Agile software development methodologies and the software development lifecycle.
  • Understanding of object-oriented design principles, software architecture concepts, design patterns, and secure coding practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting application issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.

Preferred:

  • Experience developing web applications, APIs, and distributed enterprise systems.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated testing frameworks.
  • Experience working in a commercial software product development environment.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering productivity practices.

Pay range for this opportunity is$68,637.50 - $84,787.50.This position is also eligible for bonus participation.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
