Position Summary
The Staff Software Development Engineer is responsible for managing the technical needs across PBM or Pharmacy Benefits Management space. They have accountability for the development, operations and support for web-based tool development platforms.
This position works closely with other technical leaders of the PBM space & Claims Adjudication team to assess business goals, strategic objectives and to build a comprehensive and achievable multi-year roadmap for myPBM teams.
We are seeking candidates who are passionate to collaborate very closely with Business Stakeholders, Value Pool Product Managers/Owners and Engineering teams in different development environments. They will work closely with senior leaders to ensure that investments are aligned to the Enterprise strategic goals.
**We prefer candidates be local to Buffalo Grove, IL or Richardson, TX and hybrid onsite but will consider remote for the right person.
What you will do:
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team, driving technical excellence, establishing web best practices, and ensuring the use of industry-standard methodologies and technologies
  • Technology Evaluation: Research and evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in the digital health space
  • Software Development: Utilize advanced programming skills to design and implement complex features, optimize performance, and ensure code quality
  • Problem Solving: Identify and solve complex technical problems that arise during the development process
  • Technical Insights and Recommendations: Deliver technical insights and recommendations to drive informed decision-making, ensuring that technical solutions align with business goals
  • Technology Selection and Integration: Provide recommendations on technology selection and integration, considering factors such as performance, scalability, security, accessibility, and maintainability
  • Troubleshooting and Guidance: Apply deep technical expertise to troubleshoot issues, provide guidance to the development team, and drive the resolution of technical challenges
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, User Experience/User Interface (UX/UI) designers, and software developers, to define technical requirements and create robust and scalable architectures that meet business objectives
  • Mentorship: Mentor and guide junior engineers, helping them enhance their technical skills and grow professionally through knowledge-sharing activities, technical training, and fostering a culture of learning within the team

Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in large-scale software development. With 2+ years of experience in a technical lead role
  • 7+ years of experience with developing applications/web services and cloud-native apps using technologies like Java and React, Angular, Spring Boot, REST API, JPA, messaging and other tech stacks (open-source and proprietary)
  • 5+ years of experience with agile development

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of designing and developing highly scalable Microservices, Webservices, and Rest API's
  • 5+ years of designing and developing in a Test-Driven Development environment
  • 3+ years of experience with build and deploying services in CI/CD with using tools like Jenkins, CircleCI
  • 3+ years of experience with source management tools like GitHub, GitLab
  • 3+ years of experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience working in cloud platforms like Azure, Google Cloud Platform, AWS, etc
  • Experience in Accessibility (A11y) and web performance and stability best practices

Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$118,450.00 - $260,590.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
