Job description

About Us

Dutch Vet is transforming veterinary care by making expert treatment accessible anytime, anywhere. Our mission is simple: help every pet live their happiest, healthiest life by connecting pet parents with licensed vets through seamless virtual visits.

We're the only veterinary telemedicine service that can diagnose, prescribe, and ship medications directly to customers in most states. For less than $100 per year, Dutch offers real relief and convenience for pets and their families.

As one customer put it: "Dutch was the only site that would diagnose and prescribe meds as well as ship the meds."

Here's what other customers have said about Dutch Vet:

"The easiest vet visit you'll ever have."

"More thorough than my in-person vet."

"No nonsense, quick, easy and friendly veterinarian. Much cheaper than our regular local vet that couldn't get us in. So glad I found Dutch!"

Backed by world-class investors including Forerunner Ventures, Eclipse Ventures, and Bling Capital, our team is made-up of successful startup founders (Hims, PlushCare, Nasty Gal) with expertise in scaling enterprises (TripAdvisor, Walmart, BARK). Featured in TechCrunch, Forbes, Wired, and Axios, Dutch is setting the standard for quality, accessibility, and compassion in pet care.

THE ROLE

We are seeking an SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) to own test infrastructure and quality strategy across our applications. You'll work as a partner to the engineering team - designing test frameworks, driving testability standards, and building automation that catches regressions across the full testing pyramid. You will report to the Director of Quality Assurance

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Design and maintain the Playwright-based test framework architecture, including page object patterns, test data management, and CI integration

  • Drive a testability contract with developers (data-testid standards, API test hooks) and advocate for testable architecture in design and code reviews

  • Own the testing strategy across the pyramid - ensure the right tests exist at the right layer (unit, integration, E2E) rather than pushing everything to the browser

  • Build and maintain tiered CI pipelines: smoke on deploy, regression nightly, full suite weekly

  • Automate revenue-critical and marketing-critical flows (checkout, registration, analytics/tracking, SEO validation)

  • Write production monitoring tests that verify system and vendor availability (Stripe, Calendly, fulfillment integrations)

  • Identify, triage, and track bugs with clear reproduction steps and root cause analysis

  • Partner with engineering, product, and customer support to review requirements and provide early feedback on testability and risk

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
  • 5+ years in a software engineering or SDET role with strong programming fundamentals

  • Hands-on experience building test frameworks from scratch (Playwright preferred, but equivalent experience with Cypress or similar accepted)

  • TypeScript or JavaScript proficiency - you'll be writing framework code, not just test scripts

  • Experience designing CI/CD test pipelines (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or similar)

  • Understanding of the testing pyramid and a track record of pushing tests to the appropriate layer

  • Experience partnering with developers on testability standards (data-testid contracts, API test hooks, code review for test coverage)

  • Familiarity with API testing, network-layer assertions, and mocking/stubbing third-party integrations

  • Experience with mobile test automation (Maestro or Appium) is a plus

  • Familiarity with monitoring, availability testing, or SRE-adjacent practices is a plus

WHY WORK FOR DUTCH?
  • Competitive salary range between $85K - $110K CAD

  • Remote working location

  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance

  • Life and Disability Insurance

  • Flexible PTOย

  • Mental Wellbeing Options

  • Robust Holiday Schedule

  • Registered Retirement Savings Plan

  • Growth Opportunities!
