Summary Statement:
Working with a diverse team, you will play an integral role in designing, developing, and supporting our critical Business Intelligence applications, while mentoring associate engineers on BI software development best practices in an effort to deliver our next generation of innovative applications to our customers
What you will be doing:
As a BI Software Engineer I, you will participate in all aspects of the BI Software Development lifecycle by supporting existing software development efforts and troubleshooting issues as they occur while also developing new software modules across multiple small to medium projects concurrently. You will have an opportunity to lead the design of certain software components and suggest new frameworks, applications and features based on industry and technological trends and advances. You will also consult with process owners in reviewing, interpreting & developing systems in accordance with user requirements. You will also support the integration efforts for merging BI platforms with enterprise systems and applications. Finally, you will get an opportunity to work with a diverse team and mentor junior BI software engineers.
Penske Responsibilities:
• Be the primary contact and lead support associate for multiple BI applications.
• Play a critical role in supporting the application lifecycle (design, develop, test, release and support) based on detailed requirements and guidance from senior BI engineers/leads.
• Collaborate with technical/business leaders and product owners to acquire and understand requirements / acceptance criteria.
• Develop and maintain various reports, dashboards, and visualizations
• Design and implement BI applications including integration with databases and data warehouses.
• Support the integration efforts for merging BI platforms with enterprise systems and applications.
• Understand and analyze data and identify any data discrepancies and performance bottlenecks.
• Leverage knowledge of data modeling methodologies to translate data into actionable analytical solutions and promote information-based decision-making recommendations.
• Support mission critical applications and assist in the resolution of customer issues.
• Produce deliverables with clean, well-documented and easily maintainable code that adheres to defined coding standards.
• Triage production issues and work with multiple teams to perform problem analysis
• Assign and review tasks from junior and offshore BI software engineers.
• Participate in conducting new hire interviews.
• Influence the discovery and decision-making process when changes to standards and technology are required (tools, conventions and design patterns)
• Provide support to the business by responding to user questions, concerns, and issues (for example, technical feasibility, implementation strategies)
• Communicate status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborating with project team and cross functional teams
• Ensure solution is sustainable across implementation and use; troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes; and ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs.
Qualifications
Penske Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or equivalent years of software development experience required
• 5-7 years of technology experience required
• 4+ years of hands-on experience building BI applications using tools such as Qlik Sense, Power BI, Tableau, etc. required
• Experience of full BI software development lifecycle
• Experience in technologies such as Java, React, Angular, jQuery, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, API's, web services.
• Experience of appropriate UI/UX design frameworks and patterns.
• Experience in relational database design and implementation and data modelling techniques.
• Understanding to 'Big Data' analytics and reporting and experience with cloud environments such as AWS
• Experience with data-driven testing approaches
• Knowledge of analytical methods and regression models, and advanced analytics software
• Knowledge of technical project management
• Knowledge of appropriate BI design frameworks and patterns and experience in implementing them.
• Knowledge of industry wide technology strategies and best practices.
• Experience with Agile methodology.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues
• Ability to research emerging software development frameworks and tools
• Ability to estimate and medium to large sized projects.
