Job description

Position OverviewThe Software Engineer is a hands on, product focused engineer responsible for building and enhancing data driven and AI enabled products that support Burlington's retail and corporate business functions. This role works closely with product managers, analytics, design, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
The Software Engineer contributes to the development of analytics solutions, supports the integration of AI and machine learning capabilities, and helps deliver insights that improve decision making across merchandising, supply chain, store operations, finance, and digital teams.
This position is ideal for an engineer who is growing into product ownership, learning to balance technical execution with business impact, and contributing to shared standards and best practices while operating within Burlington's fast paced retail landscape.A Day in the Life
  • Product Engineering: Product discovery, requirements translation, MVP development, backlog refinement, experimentation frameworks, usercentric design collaboration, metricsdriven iteration
  • AI & Machine Learning: LLM integration, prompt engineering, embeddings, model evaluation responsible AI practices.
  • Performance & Scalability: Query tuning, cost optimization, system scalability, reliability engineering
  • Collaboration & Leadership: Stakeholder communication, crossfunctional delivery, agile/Scrum ceremonies, technical mentoring, documentation and knowledge sharing
  • Design and implement AIenabled Power BI solutions, including integration of generative AI capabilities to enhance data exploration, insights discovery, and user experience.
  • Integrate LLMpowered features (e.g., narrative insights, summaries, explanations, and recommendations) into Power BI reports and dashboards using enterpriseapproved AI services.
  • Develop and govern Power BI reports leveraging AI visuals, predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and advanced DAX measures.
  • Partner with data science and engineering teams to operationalize machine learning outputs (predictions, scores, embeddings) within Power BI for business consumption.
  • Implement natural language query (NLQ) and conversational analytics experiences embedded within Power BI dashboards and apps.
  • Ensure performance, scalability, and cost efficiency of AIenabled Power BI solutions, including optimization of semantic models, DAX, and query patterns.
  • Apply Responsible AI and data governance principles within Power BI solutions, ensuring transparency, explainability, access controls, and compliance.
  • Standardize AIenabled Power BI design patterns, reusable templates, and best practices across the analytics organization.
  • Enable and support selfservice AI analytics in Power BI through documentation, enablement sessions, and guardrails.
  • Collaborate with product, analytics, and business teams to identify highvalue AI use cases that can be delivered through Power BI.
  • Monitor and measure adoption and impact of AIenabled Power BI features, using usage metrics and feedback to drive continuous improvement.
You'll Come With
  • 5+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics Engineering, or Data Engineering, with a strong focus on enterprise reporting and analytics platforms.
  • 2+ years of experience building and integrating AI capabilities into reporting tools, including use of AI visuals, natural language query (NLQ), predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and narrative insights.
  • CERTIFICATIONS ( Preferred) :
  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate
  • Generative AI or LLM Certifications (e.g., Microsoft, AWS, Google, or industryrecognized providers)
