Software Development Engineer (COBOL)

About Your Role

As a Software Engineer at Fiserv, you will help design, implement, and support mission-critical technology solutions that enable financial institutions and clients to operate efficiently and securely. Working within a collaborative team environment, you will leverage your technical expertise, analytical abilities, and creativity to maintain and enhance mainframe-based applications while supporting customer initiatives, product enhancements, and modernization efforts.

What you'll do:

  • Analyze, design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions within established standards and development practices
  • Collaborate with business and technical teams to evaluate customer requirements and recommend solutions that align with desired business outcomes
  • Plan and implement moderately complex technical solutions supporting client migrations, product upgrades, and related customer initiatives
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application, batch processing, and production issues while identifying opportunities for long-term improvements
  • Support multiple concurrent projects by creating detailed work plans, managing deliverables, and ensuring timely execution
  • Facilitate cross-functional teams through event planning, coordination, issue resolution, and successful project completion
  • Assist in training and mentoring new associates while contributing to a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence

Experience you'll need to have:

  • 5+ years of experience in a technical environment with exposure to banking, financial services, or e-commerce applications
  • 3+ years of experience supporting application development, systems analysis, programming, debugging, and production support activities
  • 3+ years of experience utilizing JCL, TSO, File Manager, CA7 batch scheduling, or equivalent batch processing technologies
  • 2+ years of experience with DB2 COBOL programming and DB2 database structures
  • 2+ years of experience writing and executing DB2 SQL using batch, QMF, Platinum, or similar tools
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education, work, and/or military experience

Experience that would be great to have:

  • Prior experience with banking, financial services, or e-commerce applications
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams

How you'll work:

  • Fiserv emphasizes in-person collaboration to help you grow your career while shaping the future of fintech, this role is on-site Monday through Friday
  • This role requires flexibility to work some non-standard hours that includes nights and weekends on a rotational basis, with on-call expectations in the future

Salary Range

$90,000.00 - $144,000.00

These pay ranges apply to employees in New Jersey and New York. Pay ranges for employees in other states may differ.
