Job description

As a Senior HVAC Application Engineer, you will be tasked with the development of control system engineering and standard application software selection for all assigned projects. The system design will be in accordance with the project estimates, the account representative's special instructions, and in compliance with the project design documents (plans and specifications). The system design will consist of submittal and installation documents, including: overall control network architecture, detailed wiring termination sheets, parts lists, equipment schedules, sequences of operation, application programming checklists, and point-to-point control system checkout lists.
The Senior Application Engineer will be responsible for equipment selection, proper sizing, capacity calculations, and field coordination during installation and final commissioning. You will maintain communication with: the account representative, the assigned control system project manager, Automation specialists, installation technicians, and the mechanical systems project manager.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Control Equipment selection and capacity calculations.
  • Proper equipment sizing (e.g. - Valve, damper, panel, controller counts, memory capacity, etc.)
  • Timely review of all control sequences and components to identify any potential scope gaps, sequence gaps, etc., as well as proactively identifying cost savings measures. Support the communication of these items with the Engineer of Record.
  • Preparation of control systems submittals, as-built wiring diagrams, and operating and maintenance manuals in strict accordance with the project schedule.
  • Utilization of Project Support Center personnel for Revit work; copying, assembling, and delivery of completed submittal or O&M packages; and material logistics.
  • Adherence to the building design specifications, plans, VE modifications, and salesman's estimate are mandatory in the position, as is adherence to McKenney's ACS design and implementation standards.
  • Participation in ongoing review and enhancement of the McKenney's ACS design and implementation standards, including the development of standard control sequences. Sequences shall define all parameters necessary for a control programmer to develop the software application.
  • Ability to select the controls platform best suited to meet the functional goals of the project (customer requirements) while maintaining alignment with the project budget.
  • Mentoring and development of Junior Applications and Applications Engineers on the team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • 6 years' experience working in an engineering or design capacity on communicating or networked electronic systems
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or physical sciences, or equivalent technical training in a related field, with 4 years of the required experience working directly with commercial facility digital control and facility management systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Professional Engineer's License
  • 10 years' experience in HVAC Controls, Building Automation, or Energy Monitoring
  • Advanced competency in Autodesk Revit

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND CHARACTERISTICS
  • Demonstrated competency in Windows, Microsoft Office, function block programming environments, Web-enabled applications, and database software.
  • Must be a self-starter, with the ability to work well as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals
  • Ability to maintain painstaking attention to detail while completing multiple or repetitive tasks.
  • Able to demonstrate a serious commitment to accuracy and quality while meeting goals or deadlines.
  • Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed, as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance.
  • Must possess and maintain an exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others.
  • Must project a professional and polished image that inspires confidence and trust.
  • Must have PC experience in Windows environments, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, Web-enabled applications, and database software

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS
  • Work involves moderate exposure to elements, such as hot/cold temperatures, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to construction, mechanical, and electrical-related hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Moderate physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds and extensive standing and walking.
  • Work requires local and occasional out-of-town travel to job sites and customer locations.
  • Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and scaffolds, and to negotiate work areas under construction.
