Job description

ABOUT DOP ANTIQUES

DOP Antiques is a 20,000-square-foot European antiques and interiors showroom near New Orleans. We specialize in one-of-a-kind French and European antiques, statement lighting, large mirrors, architectural elements, antique furniture, and distinctive artisan-made furnishings selected for their quality, craftsmanship, scale, and design.

Our clients include interior designers, homeowners, collectors, hospitality clients, and other design professionals. Our brand is built around exceptional merchandise, accurate information, thoughtful service, and a polished customer experience.

POSITION OVERVIEW

DOP Antiques is seeking a polished, dependable, and highly organized Part-Time Sales & Showroom Operations Associate.

This is a hands-on position combining luxury showroom sales, client communication, sales follow-up, administrative support, inventory accuracy, and physical showroom and warehouse responsibilities.

This is not a desk-only administrative position or a cashier-only retail position. During the same shift, an employee may assist a client, answer an online inquiry, verify product measurements, update customer notes, organize sales follow-ups, prepare an item for pickup, and help safely move merchandise.

The ideal candidate communicates clearly, pays close attention to details, solves practical problems, follows through without repeated reminders, and represents the DOP Antiques brand professionally.

CLIENT SERVICE AND SALES RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcome showroom clients and provide warm, professional, and attentive service.
  • Ask thoughtful questions to understand a client’s project, dimensions, style, timing, and budget.
  • Help clients identify and compare appropriate merchandise.
  • Communicate product information accurately and clearly.
  • Respond professionally to customer inquiries by phone, email, website, text, and social media.
  • Follow up with active sales leads and maintain clear notes, next steps, and due dates.
  • Assist with sales, holds, invoices, payments, customer pickups, and delivery coordination.
  • Verify dimensions, condition, availability, and other product information before communicating it to a client.
  • Never guess about an item’s age, origin, condition, dimensions, availability, wiring, delivery cost, or other product details.

SALES AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

  • Help maintain organized lists of active sales leads, pending customer requests, and required follow-ups.
  • Record customer conversations, requests, deadlines, and next steps accurately.
  • Track open quotes, holds, payments, pickups, delivery requests, and unresolved client questions.
  • Coordinate internally when measurements, photographs, condition details, or delivery information are needed.
  • Assist with scheduling customer appointments, pickups, deliveries, and other business activities.
  • Prepare concise updates for management regarding open customer needs, overdue follow-ups, and upcoming priorities.
  • Keep assigned tasks organized and communicate promptly when something cannot be completed as planned.
  • Escalate issues requiring management approval rather than making unauthorized promises or exceptions.

SHOWROOM AND INVENTORY OPERATIONS

  • Measure, tag, locate, organize, merchandise, and maintain showroom inventory.
  • Use Shopify, point-of-sale systems, email, customer records, and other business technology.
  • Verify that product records, dimensions, prices, and customer information are accurate.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and client-ready showroom.
  • Assist with merchandise preparation, customer pickups, and delivery coordination.
  • Safely lift and carry merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Assist other team members with moving larger merchandise.
  • Work regularly in a non-climate-controlled showroom and warehouse where heat and humidity are part of the working environment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication.
  • A warm, composed, and client-ready demeanor appropriate for a high-end showroom.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Practical problem-solving ability and sound judgment.
  • Dependability, punctuality, and consistent follow-through.
  • Ability to listen carefully, ask appropriate questions, and communicate without overtalking the client.
  • Ability to organize multiple responsibilities and recognize urgent priorities.
  • Comfort using computers, email, text messaging, point-of-sale systems, and digital customer records.
  • Willingness to ask questions when information is uncertain rather than guessing.
  • Ability to work independently while also supporting the showroom team.
  • Willingness to perform both client-facing and physical showroom responsibilities.
  • Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting or carrying merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Willingness to work in a non-climate-controlled warehouse.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Previous experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

  • Retail or showroom sales
  • Furniture or home furnishings
  • Luxury retail
  • Hospitality or high-touch customer service
  • Interior design or related design industries
  • Galleries, jewelry, decorative arts, or antiques
  • Shopify, point-of-sale systems, CRM systems, or inventory software
  • Administrative coordination or sales support

Antique expertise is helpful but not required. Professionalism, judgment, accuracy, curiosity, and willingness to learn are more important than pretending to know an answer.

PERFORMANCE-BASED GROWTH OPPORTUNITY

This position begins as a part-time role.

Employees who consistently demonstrate exceptional reliability, client communication, sales judgment, organization, accuracy, initiative, problem-solving ability, and independent follow-through may be considered for additional hours, expanded responsibilities, and future full-time opportunities.

One potential advancement path is a full-time Sales Operations & Executive Assistant position supporting management with lead tracking, scheduling, reporting, meeting preparation, task coordination, customer follow-up, and keeping company priorities organized and on schedule.

Advancement is based on sustained performance, readiness for greater responsibility, and the needs of the business. It is not automatic or guaranteed. Advancement into a substantially expanded position would include a separate review of responsibilities and compensation.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

A successful employee will:

  • Represent DOP Antiques professionally with high-end clients.
  • Arrive reliably, punctually, and prepared to work.
  • Keep customer and product information accurate.
  • Complete customer follow-ups and assigned tasks without repeated reminders.
  • Take ownership of responsibilities and communicate when assistance is needed.
  • Identify problems and propose practical solutions.
  • Know when to act independently and when management approval is required.
  • Move comfortably between sales, administrative support, and physical showroom responsibilities.
  • Help make the management team more organized and effective.

COMPENSATION

Starting compensation is $15.00–$18.00 per hour, based on directly relevant experience, communication ability, organizational skills, technology proficiency, sales judgment, and demonstrated readiness to work independently.

Selected applicants will complete a brief customer-service and prioritization exercise. Finalists may also complete a short phone role-play.

DOP Antiques is an equal opportunity employer.

*We are looking for someone who takes pride in representing a premium brand and understands that every customer interaction contributes to our reputation.
