Card Vertical Risk Manager, Card Data Controls, Script & Feature Governance - Principal Associate

The Card Vertical Risk Manager (VRM) role will support Card Data leadership in the primary areas of controls oversight & innovation, script governance, and features governance. The Card Risk role supports the Card Data Now team within Card Data Models Decisioning and Credit (DMDC). Principal Risk Specialists at Capital One are the first line of defense to ensure our Company remains well-managed and profitable.

Principal Risk Specialists at Capital One are highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. These skills allow the Principal Risk Specialist to gain insights, and act as a change agent to influence their business partners. As Capital One evolves to meet the ever changing technology landscape, so do our Principal Risk Specialists. A successful Principal Risk Specialist operates from a foundation of knowledge about the Line of Business with whom they are working, laws / regulations and good Risk Management practices. They are forward thinking, quick to adapt, and technologically adept. Principal Risk Specialists have a high level of exposure across lines of business and have the opportunity to work with Executives to create and implement innovative solutions to appropriately manage risks within the Card business.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating the risk assessment process associated with new/changing intent for multiple Card business areas

  • Develop management reporting based on risk assessments

  • Coordinating the various process interactions, including meeting logistics, and facilitating collaborative meetings with 1st and 2nd line process participants

  • Stay current on the changing regulatory environment and understand the impacts to your businesses

  • Partner with data analysts to iterate and improve upon risk monitoring and reporting

  • Synthesize data and perform analysis to bring valuable business insights to the Card business

  • Assess controls, and glean insights from issues and events in across business areas

  • Design, implement, and/or influence internal governance processes

  • Connecting the dots of the changing strategic and operational priorities and risk environment and partnering with the risk advisors and business to understand the impacts

  • Partner with internal customers to provide strategic and tactical thought partnership to effectively drive project delivery

  • Demonstrate outstanding communication and partnership skills which are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders across all levels to manage, inform, and influence outcomes

  • Supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients in many forms such as advisor, project manager, or performer

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification

  • At least 1 year of risk management and controls experience

  • At least 1 year of experience reporting and analyzing data

  • At least 1 year of experience developing presentations for senior stakeholders

  • At least 2 years of project or process management experience

  • At least 2 years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

  • 1+ years of experience facilitating and conducting Risk Assessments

  • 3+ years of financial services or risk management experience

  • 4+ years of project or process management experience

  • 4+ years of experience supporting, partnering, and interacting with internal business clients

  • Professional certifications within risk management or assurance (Certified Risk Management Professional, Certified Internal Auditor).

Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
