Job Description Department of Anesthesia, McMaster University Full-Time Anesthesiologist and Established Researcher

McMaster University, Department of Anesthesia, in conjunction with Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation (HHSC) invites applications for a full-time anesthesiologist eligible for CPSO licensing, FRCPC accreditation an asset, and with an established research portfolio to join our team.Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidateโ€™s qualifications and experience.This position is for a term of three years (renewable) and participates in the clinical practice plan of the McMaster University, Department of Anesthesia, as well as the alternate funding plan of the Hamilton Anesthesia Associates.Remuneration is commensurate with the planned clinical services over an academic/clinical year.

The successful candidate will have experience training postgraduate and undergraduate learners and supervising research projects.A research focus on perioperative patient outcomes, and a desire to develop reliable, affordable and accessible point-of-care diagnostic tools is essential in both the research and clinical services fields.

This role will need to demonstrate a collaborative approach across multi-disciplinary clinical care and research. Demonstrated experience within a research institute is an asset and may include experience in research with the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI) or similar institutes.The commitment for the continued development of grants and research projects is supported with protected time and potential funding through the alternate funding plan of the Hamilton Anesthesia Associates.

Hamilton Health Sciences is a community of 18,000 staff, physicians, researchers and volunteers that proudly serves southwestern Ontario residents, providing care for all ages, from pre-birth to end of life. We also provide specialized, advanced care to people from across the province. We offer world-leading expertise in many areas, including cardiac and stroke care, cancer care, palliative care and pediatrics.

The Department of Anesthesiology provides anesthetic and related clinical services to the Hamilton General Hospital, Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, McMaster University Medical Centre, and West Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Many of the members of the 60-strong department are subspecialized in cardiac, pediatric and neonatal, obstetrical, and neuro anesthesia. Some are subspecialized in acute and chronic pain, critical care and trauma. Clinical care of patients is the focus of each and every anesthesiologist in the department.

The Clinical Anesthesia Department works closely with the Academic Anesthesia Department and the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University. HHSC Anesthesiologists participate in daily clinical teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows. In addition, research is carried out by some department members in collaboration with the Population Health Research Institute and other medical and surgical specialties.

The Anesthesiologists are committed to the delivery of excellence in anesthesia care and they demonstrate the value of anesthesiology to the overall care of many patients both inside and outside of the Operating Room. The department is a key partner in the delivery of clinical services, academic teaching, research, administration, and many other aspects of health care.
