Job description

Blackbird Interactive is a creative-fueled, future-driven, independent game studio where the best talent in the industry can find long-term careers to help grow their abilities while working on a wide range of projects, which encompass world-class IPs as well as our own creations across multiple genres.

Our studio operates as a remote-first workplace, offering flexible work arrangements.

At this time, we are only able to hire candidates who are legally eligible to work in Canada and reside within Canada.

BBI are co-developing a third-person sci-fi action title (Unreal Engine) and are seeking a skilled 3D Environment Art Generalist who can help bring a striking, cohesive universe to life. You will collaborate with a tight-knit group of highly dedicated and talented artists, designers, and developers to create best-in-class game content from interpreting concept art to delivering final in-game assets. The ideal candidate has strong 3D modeling and texturing skills and can show modular environment art pipeline experience covering structures, props and organics. While this is not a lead role, the successful candidate will be proactive, collaborative, and capable of owning significant asset responsibilities and possess the ability to translate artistic direction into polished, high-quality assets.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Project Art Director and Team Leads to execute the visual direction of a third-person sci-fi action game via a highly technical Unreal engine pipeline.

  • Create high-quality hardsurface assets such as props and environmental set pieces.

  • Produce clean, efficient models and materials suited for real-time workflows and optimized for gameplay needs.

  • Iterate quickly on concepts, prototypes, and final assets in collaboration with design, animation, and tech art.

  • Consistently deliver polished, production-ready work that enhances the overall quality bar.

Requirements
  • 4+ years of industry experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to create high-quality 3D environment art assets for games.

  • Strong understanding of modeling, UVs, baking, and PBR texturing workflows.

  • Experience in modular environment art creation and execution within a game engine.

  • Proficiency with Substance tools (Painter and/or Designer).

  • Experience working in a collaborative environment with Art Directors and cross-disciplinary teams.

Pluses
  • Sculpting skills for natural forms, organics and foliage.

  • Experience with Unreal Engine PCG system.

  • Passion for science fiction and action games.

  • Interest in worldbuilding, cinematics, or visual storytelling.
